Remove the steering column cowl/shroud, noise may stop, use your eyes and ears.

If not remove the wheel, use your eyes and ears again.

There is not much left to say, you have to roll up your sleeves and get amongst it and use your senses or be taken for lots of money.

So you didn’t remove the steering wheel cover? It is literally a five minute job.

I think we are wasting our efforts here, I'm happy to help anyone who will help themselves, no more from me.

Yes ADR85, that is the steering cover/cowl/shroud we have been speaking of, I understand that it probably does not translate well.

Good luck.

Morning fellows,
After do all @numskulltold me, the noise still there.
In other garage, much more trusted, the worst scenario appears again: "the steering rack".

They will offer me 2 alternatives:
  - Repair the piece.
  - Replace the piece.

I don't have the prices yet, but only the new piece cost around 1000€.

I'm contacting with Skoda, both garages (official and non-official) told me the same "It's not logic in a car with 5 years and less than 50.000KM have this kind of problem, except a manufacter issue. The car haven't got guaranty but at least try to speak with Skoda assistance".

Thank you all for the advices, I learn so much.
If I have any notice I'll notice to you fellows!!

PD: The Three Wise Men will be lightly laden this year.... 😞

Luis,

Where is the noise actually being generated? What I mean is, is it at the top of the steering column or is it lower down?

Has the technician said it is the steering rack, the steering column or both items which need to be replaced?

I think speaking to Skoda is a good idea as you may be able to get a goodwill payment from them, as these are not items which should fail so early in the life of any vehicle.

I had a steering rack issue just a week or so ago. No noise or warning but whilst driving the display showed a red steering wheel and loss of power assistance. It was very heavy to steer just a few miles home. Independent VW/Skoda specialist had a look and found the steering rack had failed. Cost to replace about £2000. Fortunately the car was under warranty from where I had bought it from so they picked up the bill. For an item that had covered just over 50,000 miles and should last a long time, not impressed. Was it the state of our roads or bad luck? Either way, its fixed and I'm not out of pocket.  Find a garage you trust and they will sort it.

Just a little bit??? Perhaps you should have mentioned this somewhat important fact at the start of the thread?
