My DSG gearbox seems playing up..

Recommended Posts

I had my mechatronic seal repaired and mechatronic and gearbox oil replaced (there is a thread about it in this forum) months ago. Since then I have been finding the car bit difficult to drive, especially  where lots of stop and starts and also in incline. The gear jumps from 1 to 2 very quickly and that's where car shakes and jumps.in 20+mph gear changes to 4th, doesn't bother me that much but from start position i have to play tricks (let the accelerator go and press and go and press to control the shakes, vibration and jolt) I never noticed how it was before, but bow i feel it bit different in terms of driving from stop position..I have tried driving in Eco and Sport mode. They are slightly better than Normal mode.

Do you guys think there is something wrong with gearbox or i could continue driving with 'let go and press again' trick to control the gear?

Could be the clutch packs? Assuming there are no leaks or errors, I wonder if the clutches are worn leading to juddering..

No more leaking and no fault code. in fact there was no fault code in terms of mechatronic leaking previously..

have you tried basic settings on the gearbox in the apps>workshop>basic setting of transmission section??

No, I didn't do that. Is there anyway of doing it from OBD11!!!. I'll try to have a look today...

i took the car to that garage and the guy said, probably i need new clutches. They fixed the leak only and they didn't touch anything else when they did mechatronic oil leaking job. As the car is 111k now, it is normal to have the clutches worn out.

 Update:

Yesterday I had MOT and i saw the oil leaking sign again and this time in gearbox not in the mechatronic (which was laready fixed). So, I took the car to the same gear where mechatronic leaking was fixed. they also confirmed that mechatronic isn't leaking. this time it is gear box. My car also judders time to time especially when car is stopping position in uphill. So, garage guy said, I  may need clutch repair as well and with everything he said it will cost me 1500 +Vat..

It seems it is now one after another. Few months ago it was mechatronic and now Gear..

Need expert opinion...It is not too much leaking or dripping the oil at the moment...but problem is juddering.. it judders every now and then and as an uber driver i need lot of city drivings. What should I do? Can anyone recommend me any gear especialist in london to get the second opinion or quote.

okay - a DQ200 box.  DSG are actually manual gearboxes with two clutch packs.  If you are experiencing issues with gears 1,3,5 or 2,4,6 and juddering on one of the clutchpacks, then you probably have a worn clutch pack.  However, it is suspicious that the issue only happened after the Mech unit was replaced.

There are some lessons here about how you drive those boxes.  Firstly, never leave the car in drive, if you are at a standstill; always knock it into neutral.  The gearbox should disengage the clutch, but if your fluid is low in the gearbox, then this will cause wear on the clutchpack and potentially cause problems.

The DQ200 boxes can be troublesome; not always, but were really only designed to work with lower engine capacities.  I always thought the 1.4 and 1.5 engines with those boxes - was never a great idea....my personal opinion.

They are also 'sealed for life' boxes (i.e. you cannot easily top up the fluids or service them as easily as the DQ250 or DQ381 boxes).

Its worth finding a gearbox specialist: However, in the meantime, to show you that this is a known issue, have a look at: https://www.eco-torque.co.uk/post/vw-dsg-7-speed-dsg-gearbox-problems

The Mechantonic unit....we don't know how it was configured or even setup properly.  Does it have the latest firmware on it?

I hope you get the issue resolved soon.

Actually the issue was present before the mechatronic resealing and oil changing job. In normal city drives (London) there are lots of stop starts everyday. One in every Ten times it judders from stop position to start and if it is steep incline trhere will definitely be juddering. Mechatronic looks dry now, and also firmware was never been updated.  I can see that there are updates available in my OBD11. But don't know where can I do it. I had the car taken to dealer for servicing few times.

Well, just wondering, shall I start looking for an used gearbox from the breakyard for my car cause i still have to drive this car at least few more years. I need to have it sorted once and for all.

@varaderoguy

The sealed for life DQ200 is not difficult to change the 2 oils in them.

& no more difficult than a DQ250 or a DQ381.

As to not leaving in D with foot on brake pedal it does no harm.

You are trooping out some right nonsense that you are gathering from various sources.

The DQ200,s had and have issues, as far as changing the filled for life oil, well the World Wide Recall in 2012 had millions get the synthetic changed to mineral and the software update, and then when eventually the Service Campaign started in Europe in 2014 there were tens of thousands done just the same.

'34F7'

As to 2013-2015, there were thousands that were in for the Workshop action '34H5' and the software update.

The DQ200,s since 2009 have been used with many engines with up to 250 Nm and 192 ps.

1.2,1.4 TSI / TFSI & 1.4 TSI /TFSI twinchargers 132-136 kW 1.8 TSI up to 192 ps & 1.2, 1.4 & 1.6 TDI,s and then the 1.5 TSI,s.

Auto is for ease of driving. Why would you want to keep shifting from D to N and back to D all the time? I use stop start all the time, so at least I'm doing a little bit to help pollution levels.
