Columbus In German!

Featured Replies

I have had the same issue for a couple of months. Ordered the cd from eBay above. Can you describe the process of using the CD? Do I put it in and do the three button hold to reset?

Hi. In the end I just put the CD in as a normal  CD - it took about 2 hours to do its stuff. The CD then ejected and radio, player and phone working fine now. My satnav didn’t update but that hasn’t worked for several years and I use Carplay for directions.
You will need a good car battery as that was why my CD didn’t work on the first attempt.

Hi there.

I simply put mine in and followed the prompts on the screen.

You may need to put a charge on your battery as it takes a while, around 45 minutes if I remember rightly.

My Ebay one did not work, a very kind chap on here sent me a link and I had it burnt onto a disc.

I just popped the disc in, and after 45 mins it worked again

Thanks for all the response! I will make sure to use a battery charger when trying the CD. The seller pointed me to a CD-version after I gave him the numbers of my unit. If it is not working the search for the right CD will continue. Maybe I can find the nice guy who helped you. Need to get a CD-burner in that case though.

I received the CD now but my stereo is not taking it. I push it into the slot as a normal CD inlet and nothing happens. It does not take it 😞 Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

I have not heard of that, there is no chance there is one already in the slot?

I hope you get someone on here who knows the solution.

I can push the CD very far in. Like so only 5mm of it is sticking out. Feel like if I let go it is just going to fall in there... Never experienced this with any CD player before. I press the eject button also and nothing happens. Guess nothing is in there.

Satnav defaulting to German is often a sign that the GPS antenna is dead.

Just to give an update. I got

my CD, connected the battery to power supply and dropped the CD in the tray. It did not take it and now it is just rattling in there 😂 Won’t come out when I press the button. Guess my Columbus unit is beyond repair. Maybe I will replace it some day when I get the opportunity. For now I will live without music in the car. Still, thanks for

the support!

take some pics of what it looks like. if its identical i can send you a disk that should fix it. Might have to send it to someone else when your done too haha.

I bought a disc from eBay but the CD player did not take it and now it’s stuck in there. Have not heard anyone else experiencing this so I assume my unit has some more issues. I’m looking for a replacement but I would suggest that you try a disc first as it seems to solve the issue for most people. Good luck 😊

Oh man thats bad luck. I wouldnt even know what to suggest. Hit it with a hammer maybe? (dont do that)

Replacement units are expensive from what ive heard 😕 I wish i could link you to the breakers yard that has my old car as the unit in that works fine.

Yeah, an original unit was waaay beyond budget. In Sweden it was like 37000SEK=3500USD so crazy.

I am looking for used units or a new third party one from AliExpress. Found the one attached below but no one can confirm it works with my superb as it has Skoda Sound System.

I hear it is a good one with CarPlay etc anyway.

I could send pics but I can tell you 100% the problem is the same, I read EVRY word of this thread before posting.

Hello again! It has been some time but I have now solved this problem by replacing the Columbus with a third party unit. I have looked all over the internet to find a unit that supports Skoda Sound System. It felt like mission impossible but I finally found the company Eonon. Their unit VWA12S-6G fit perfectly and they gave me perfect support on the installation. Can’t recommend it enough! So now I once more have sound, all parking sensors work and even wireless apple CarPlay.
