Bought a Karoq Today (2)

Thank you to everyone who replied to my posting yesterday on removing the aero wheel trims on my new Karoq and replacing them with wheel nut covers and wheel centre caps.  I ought to have asked this new question yesterday but didn't - apologies for that.  Anyway, the dealer has agreed to me removing my spare wheel from the Octavia I am trading in next week and putting it into my new Karoq.  The Octavia full size spare wheel is fitted with 205/55/R16 tyres.  The Karoq's wheels are fitted with 215/55/R17 tyres.  Both are 5 studs.  Will the Octavia spare wheel fit onto the Karoq and will the wheel physically fit into the Karoq's spare wheel well?  I know I can buy a skinny spare for the Karoq but would like to avoid the expense if I can.  Apologies once again for not raising this yesterday.  Thanks.

The 17" Karoq rim has a specification of 7Jx17 ET45 5/112 57.1

The 16" Octavia MK3 rim has a specification of 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1

As you can see in the chart below, the outside diameter of the 205/55R16 tyre is 5.4% smaller than the outside diameter of the 215/55R17 tyre. This is quite a big difference. However, 205/55R16 is sometimes used as a spare on the Superb MK3 and that car also has a 215/55R17 tyre size. Notice that the 125/70R18 space saver tyre also has an outside diameter 5.4% smaller than 215/55R17. Notice also, that the 135/80R18 space saver tyre has almost the same outside diameter as the 215/55R17 tyre.

Outside diameter of tyre

215/55R17 668.3mm

215/60R16 664.4mm

205/55R16 631.9mm (-5.4% smaller outside diameter than 215/55R17)

125/70R18 632.2mm (-5.4% smaller outside diameter than 215/55R17)

135/80R18 673.2mm (+0.7% bigger outside diameter than 215/55R17)

A 135/80R18 space saver tyre could be fitted to the same space saver rim that the more common 125/70R18 space saver tyre uses.

Why don't you spec the Karoq online and see what the spare wheel is. That's what I did and it was the same spare. My issue is the spare won't fit in the boot.

I need the raisers for the boot floor but can't find them online...

Just realised, on reading this thread, that I gave away my spare, and tools, when I traded in my Octavia for my Karoq. Then paid for a new spare and tools for the Karoq! 🙄

I wasn't making that mistake. Fitted it in the boot now. Just need the polystyrene for the back but the nets do a good job of making it all look perfect.
