Hi , I would like to introduce to the forum , I am an old guy who loves driving and had a real shock on the M5 last week. I don't think it's fair to the car manufacture but I was driving on those terrible Intelligent Motorway , ( no shoulder ) and my car ended up travelling down the safety barrier through a component failure.

I do hope that the car is written off but you never know.

The reason I am seriously looking at Skoda products because my mate has four of the brand !

I am really keen to acquire a Superb Estate car and would be great full on any points of concern on any particular model.I would prefer a petrol engine with an automatic transmission but I saw a 6 cylinder engine but the RFL frightened me. Looks like a 4 pot but I only now drive 4000 miles per year.

Are there many specialist Skoda sales companies in the UK. I don't mind traveling.

My spending limit will be what I receive from the Insurance Company for my bashed up car.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated and I always put back comment into the forum and not vanish.

Hi , As Simon and Garfunkel said silence is golden.

Welcome to the forum Phil.

I'm afraid I can't advise you on purchasing a Superb or cars in general, but I think there are lots of happy owners on here who may be more use.

Hope you get some more input..

Pete

Hi and welcome to the forum, we are all a pretty happy and friendly bunch here by and large.

Right, firstly, sorry to read about your horror incident on the M5 last week.

OK, so you are looking for a Superb ideally, and I certainly can't blame you, they are genuinely good cars and are extremely comfortable and spacious internally and in the boot as well. I'm on my 5th IIRC the first 4 were all company cars and when I retired 7 years ago, I purchased my old company car as I knew its complete history, I thought it made perfect sense. Apart from doing all the required servicing as required, the car never cost me anything extra and was reliable apart from the occasion when it decided to shred the alternator drive belt for some reason, maybe something was picked up of the road which get tangled up with it, I don't know.

Last April it got written off sadly by someone pulling out in front of me, the car at the time was 9.5 years old with 78,000 miles on the clock. It was a 63 plate L&K hatch. It took me 2 months of searching around covering over 2,000 miles looking for another similar spec Superb which I did eventually find in a garage 150 miles away, but it had over 140,000 miles on the clock, although the car did not show signs of that in its condition.

I was a little dubious of the mileage especially with my old one having low miles on it, however I had been watching a few car channels on You Tube and there was a Octavia in one of those that was brought for just £200 with 431,000 miles on the clock and the car was in excellent mechanical condition and was then subjected to some restoration by Skoda themselves and also a body shop did a full respray. The car was the sold and 5 years later the You Tuber decided to try and buy the car back again which he did with 460,000 miles on it. The videos about this high mileage hero are listed below if you would like to watch them.

Anyway, the original 8 videos sort of convinced me that the service history was the key thing, if a car has a good history, then high mileage is not anything to be overly concerned about, so I went ahead and purchased that high miler that I spoke about above and it is doing me proud and my local Skoda dealer/service Dept are also telling me that I did well in buying it and that the car is in good overall condition and was a bargain.

The garage that I purchased it from was very good and friendly, AA approved and has got excellent feedbacks and has an arrangement with Skoda Leasing and sources most of their Skoda cars from them. I can recommend that you ought to at least consider them as a potential supplier and they currently have a Superb estate, V6 3.6L petrol automatic but no other Superbs, but their stock is always changing.

Good morning Phil, I don't know what you were driving before, but I suggest taking a couple of test drives in likely-looking vehicles in dealers near you first.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the performance and economy of even a lowly 1.4 TSI.

Hello Phil :hi:

My first foray into Skoda ownership was a V6 Superb (TDI).  Smashing car and a great introduction to the brand.  I'm unlikely to have a diesel again as I don't do the miles to warrant it.  Agree with @Warrior193 - of the 1.4's I've driven, I've been  impressed with how sprightly they can be 👍  Test drives a must, to get a feel for what you're driving.
