Considering buying 2021 Skoda Octavia Combi PHEV

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I'm new here so please forgive me if this has been asked but I couldn't find a thread as such.

I'm considering buying 2021 Skoda Octavia Combi PHEV, with up to 50k km mileage so not new, but definitely not used and abused.

The purchase is not exactly something I need but definitely something I want or just looking to spoil myself with as I've been grown tired of my 2016 Toyota hybrid.

My question - is there anything that I should look out for? Anything I should know that could talk me out of buying an Octavia PHEV? Any technical issues..?

I can charge at home & work, commute 3-5 times/week for up to 30km roundtrip. I quite often take longer trips, within country and abroad. Also - have a dog so Combi is mainly for that reason. Also looks.

I'm aware of occasional infotainment issues, but as far as I'm aware it's mostly solved with software updates.

Thank you!

That's the advice I could give - try to make sure that all possible software and firmware updates were applied. Not possible to do it yourself I guess, you would need to access detailed car's servicing history.

Otherwise, for your use case it should be a perfect car.

You should check the high voltage battery.  I have just purchased a 2021 Octavia PHEV and my range when newly charged is about 29 miles, if the battery has not been properly charged the vehicle you are looking at may have a significantly lower range.

I bought mine from a Skoda dealer and insisted that they updated the software to version 1941.

Does not mean your battery is bad.

I still do on mine around 35 miles when it is warm on 2020 car which is always charged at max current till 100%.

@RobL50 When your car is fully charged and showing 29 miles range can you actually go 29 miles just in EV mode?

@santr

The 1.4 TSI PHEV engine oil changes are Fixed Regime, so yearly / Under 16,000 km.

The DSG Servicing is every 64,000 km.

I get very close to the 29 miles and the sum of remaining range plus miles driven is normally around 30/31 miles.  There is a small gain from braking.

I'm about to make the jump from an Octavia Estate to Superb Estate and am considering the PHEV for similar reasons, short trips during the week but also would be for holidays in mainland Europe. What's the 1.4 engine like in the Superb? My partner has the 1.4 in a 2017 Leon so presumably same/similar but that's ~500kg lighter than the Superb!
