Hi All,

 

It is sad news that I had to say goodbye to my 15 reg Roomster recently.

 

I traded it in for another brand and even though the Roomster is only 9 years old (owned it since brand new/ pre reg) had covered 110k of London miles (not used for taxi but commuting and used it for work) the car has been a very reliable work horse until recently.

 

3 months ago, the throttle body failed and Skoda garage quoted £1500 for the job but as I had all your knowledge in the forum and also I have a small knowledge of the engine and I like to work on my cars sometimes so I just bought a compatible throttle body and installed it myself in under 30mins and also only cost £75, not really sure where the £1425 difference is going to for the Skoda Garage.

Then recently the water pump failed again making a growling noise when accelerating ( previously the water pump was replaced at the same Skoda garage 2 years ago under 30k miles of use. Thought it was the chain rattle/ chain guides needs changing but went to a VAG specialist and they said it just the pump but this will cost £550.00.

 

Since I bought the car for below £9k at the time (Extremely good deal) and right now its only worth around £2.5-3k, i think the time is up to part ways with my work horse.

 

Had a lot of fond memories in that car. This was my wedding car, the car I drove my new born back home with it, went to Europe with the family in it, how I got my first 2 ever speeding tickets with it in Wales when only having owned the car for 1 month, had been my trusty steed moving house with it and a whole lot more.

 

Dont think any other car can compete with the intelligent space it has for such a small car and how useful the car has been to me and my family.

 

My Roomster should be auctioning off now but I hope it will live on giving memories to the next owner (hopefully good ones) and it may pop back up in this forum who knows.

 

It is Goodbye for the Roomster forum and for Skoda, but maybe I will be back.

I have similarly fond memories of my Roomsters and still consider my Scout the best car I have owned in more than 50 years of motoring.

I'm with both "R" and "R.

Fantastic car all round, mines still within the family and going strong. I bought my Scout new in 2008, I passed it on to a family member in 2019 when I was offered only £1750 as a trade in on another car, I said I'd rather give it away than take that, It was such a good car. And that's what I did.

I wish it was possible to get my old sdi mechanicals in my Roomster !!  the practicality is amazing for me, i get 2 big dumpy bags (the empty 1 tonne type) of garden waste in there, i have the use of a day camper base my ex made for hers.

She is so temperamental though I've had dpf light, indicator glitches, random abs fault, random egr fault

my ex has the greenline 1.2 tdi  though and had no issues and stella mpg

one positive thing is i am learning lots of new things about these emission devices, when i was a Ford apprentice the sierra  was just arriving on the scene so the only diagnostics was the sun machine, diesels were pretty rare also .

That view there has convinced me that I should get rid of the Yeti for a Roomster, if only the Scout was actually 4wd I would change in an instant.

 

What length do you have there and what is the height through the tailgate? I am assuming that its 1m across like all the Skodas I have had.

 

Also is that a Variofloor with storage space underneath?

It's my ex's car but I will give mine a measure, it's all hand made by her, some more pics, the fact the seats lift out is great for me

I would do a similar thing if I bought one, looking more like when I buy one.

 

I have done the same on the rear part of the Yeti as I need the underfloor space but have for the moment stopped short of the seats so as to still be able to use them, but they only get put in once a year and it makes loading long stuff unstable.

I bought my 1.2tsi new in 2013 and it has proven ultra reliable. All the bulbs (lamps) are original apart from one number plate bulb. It has taken us visiting seven EU countries without missing a beat. I have taken my sons sofa and other rubbish to the recycling centre in seat-out mode and I love it. The most reliable car and least expensive maintenance vehicle I have ever owned. For its age only a modest 60k so it will probably be the last ice car I will ever own lasting another 10 years. Love it!
