I had to reset my infotainment system to factory settings and since then I've been unable to set myself as the primary user. It just spins the icon (after entering my Skoda I'd and password). It loaded my profile correctly because it displays my correct name. Is it safe to delete my car from the existing Skoda id (not activated) and create a new one without losing my active infotainment subscription? Alternative suggestions how to make myself the primary user are also welcome. Skoda support only said to visit my Skoda dealership...

I assume you are on software version 1941?  

This sounds similar to an issue I have read on other threads about not being able to become primary user on the car.  The solution was to disconnect your battery and then re-connect.  I think this forces some kinds of full and complete reboot of the infotainment system.  Have a hunt around the forum and also hopefully someone with greater knowledge or experience of the.issue can confirm.

I had the same issue when I purchased my Skoda Approved Used Car - was unable to become the Primary user and got stuck where you are getting to, that's when I stumbled upon the disconnect battery solution.  I must emphasise I didn't follow this suggestion as my software was out of date and there were a few other software-related issues so I got the dealer to update the Infotainment software to 1941 and also update the SOS module firmware as it was no cost to me going that route.

Try also with the engine running at the time when you sign in.

Update, I tried with the engine running - no change.  I then disconnected the battery and left it for 20 minutes.  Connected it again and went through the setup but when I get to setting the primary user is just hangs again.  Should I leave it disconnected for longer maybe?

I would imagine 20 minutes would be plenty of time.  Very frustrating but looking more like a visit to a dealership might be necessary.  Maybe send an email to Škoda directly explaining problems and action taken - although if I am honest they are pretty hopeless.
