DQ381 gearbox fully locked clutch speed/conditions

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

A couple of days ago I bought my first estate - Octavia 2.0 TSI 4x4 with DSG. I've had several automatics, but this is my first DSG and I'm starting to gather some info about it.

Is there any specific speed or scenario when the clutch pack is fully locked? For example when the brakes are released and the vehicle reaches and keeps a speed without me pressing the gas pedal?

I suppose when I'm on flat road and vehicle goes ~6-7 kmh / 4 mph without me pressing the brake/accelerator the clutches are fully locked, but I'm pretty sure this is not the case when going uphill. When I release the brakes (when going uphill), the speed does not go above 3-4 kmh / 2 mph so I assume the clutches are slipping in this condition and to minimize the wear I touch the accelerator slightly.

Are there any tips and tricks about the gearbox when moving through traffic jams to reduce the the wear, e.g. use manual mode and stay in first gear, use sport, etc?

Of course I keep the golden rules for that scenario - when the car in front of me moves by inches I don't move, I leave some distance to it to keep steady speed and not constantly hit the brakes or the accelerator and so on.
