Correct spark plugs for 1.2 HTP engine

Featured Replies

Hello

Can anyone confirm what the correct spark plugs would be for a 2012 1.2 HTP (3-cylinder) engine please?

Euro Car Parts are offering me a variety of different options for the car, so not sure what to go with.

There are different types of regular plugs with a single prong at the end, and also versions with 4 prongs on the bottom rather. I do know the four-prong ones are wrong, but no idea which of the others are correct.

Would these work?

Thanks

Chris

Sorry for the delayed response, been dealing with a family bereavement.

Engine code is CGPA.

Researching based on the engine code has confused me more, as retailers suggest that both the Bosch FR78X (4 pole) and the Bosch FR7HC+ (1 pole), im now even more confused which I should be using and whether they are interchangeable?

any help appreciated.

thanks

Chris

Number of negative electrodes is of minor impact. Trade-off between slowing the erosion rate by having multiple, and shielding the spark (fewer is better).

As per LLL link supplied previously, the correct Bosch item is their part number F7HER02, genuine PN 101905601F.

The second one listed there as suitable for CGPA seems to be no longer available.

So the Bosch plug you mention above, (which is no longer made) seems to have been replaced by FR7HC+. But are you saying that either of the two options will work? I don’t really get what you mean by “Trade-off between slowing the erosion rate by having multiple, and shielding the spark (fewer is better).” I don’t understand what the downside would be (if any) of using the FR78X (4 pole) plugs over the single pole ones?

sorry, spark plugs have always been a point of confusion on these cars for me.

It really isn't critical on an engine like yours, brand and design really don't matter at all, just buy whatever is cheapest and in stock at your local ECP or GSF, all the recommended plugs will be a "7" which is the important bit.

Downside of multi-electrode plugs is that there's more metal in between the spark and the mixture being ignited by it.

You don't get multiple sparks one to each ground electrode.

Watch out for reg number look-ups at the likes of ECP; there can be very wrong results amongst correct ones offered.
