Front passenger door lock problem

Featured Replies

Car is estate 2019 with Kessy. Passenger door will not unlock by pulling the external handle with the key present, however the other 3 doors do unlock. Also does not unlock when opening driver's door, pressing the key fob or the unlock button in front of the gear lever. It will unlock by pulling the internal passenger door handle. Car can be locked by touching the passenger or drivers door handle. Driver's door, rear doors and tailgate behave normally. I have reset the "open all doors" in the setting menu. Has anyone had the same problem or got any ideas as to what the problem is?

clarification

You say the passenger door will not unlock, will it open when you pull on the external handle when you have unlocked all doors?

I'm trying to work out if it's an unlocking or opening problem so we can offer the appropriate advice.

No, I can only open the passenger  door by pulling the internal door handle

Sounds like the linkage between the exterior handle and the actual lock has become disconnected.

Thanks for reply PetrolDave. Found that the passenger door will sometimes unlock and sometimes not. On my car simply gripping either front handle, without pulling, should unlock all 4 doors. It always unlocks 3 doors and occasionally unlocks all 4. I think the issue is probably an electronics problem as opposed to a mechanical issue. I think I will need to see if it has thrown up any fault codes.

Check for fault codes for sure. You can also monitor lock sensors microswitches as you lock unlock. But I would not dismiss a mechanical problem like the linkage cable being too tight. Spent a week searching for that and replacing 2 x lock modules when I bought my used vw golf  r mk7!!

Took it to a Skoda/VW dealer and explained the problem. Got the impression they had heard the story before, they put it straight into the service bay. Five minutes later they said the locking mechanism in the passenger door needed replacing and would order a new part and could fit me in in a couple of weeks!

When I bought my car, it failed the MOT as front door wouldn't open from the outside.

Something was replaced and all good.

Did read up it's a bit of a known fault.

Sounds like they know and will fix it
