2020 2.0 TSI 190 Sportline 34k miles saloon service woes

Featured Replies

Hi

Just had a year 4 main dealer service and optional Aircon service and MOT prep as part of the service plan and in advance of the MOT in NI so at a government test station Monday week. #Known faults intermittent mirror control NFF still faulty on return but not covered by plan

#Front shock found leaking under plan ok to be replaced

#Headlight alignment needs doing

#Wipers smearing - will go to halfrawds

#####Aircon service could not be completed as couldn't re-gas must have a leak he says - probably hear exchanger has a stone chip - was working yesterday and had never failed worked really well. Not covered by plan. Was set to  Lo on return of car so he was obviously trying it.

#Parking sensor beeping constantly- needs further investigation

Going back in Friday to get shock done before MOT I agreed to reschedule MOT from November (there's a huge waiting list in NI and i got a lucky cancellation). They collect the car from home 16 miles away for service. I'm happy to do the MOT as it's near me.

Service plan warranty only covers safety items..... He says

What you you knowledgeable people do about the Aircon in particular? It broke under their care to my mind. I thought buying a boring car from a main dealer with a Skoda service plan warranty would give me hassle free motoring.

Funny thing was a young lad picked it up and the service manager returned it. Was this due to the bad news?

Any help gratefully accepted on this one. What is best course of action .....

Bullllllllshiiiiiiiit! How would they know without testing the system?
I had all that nonsense a couple of years ago (from a so-called AC expert btw!) and it was identified very quickly at the excellent indy I use, as joint leak on the top pipe to the condenser.

My thoughts exactly but i added some expletives. The aircon was working yesterday and had never failed or degraded. Question is how to proceed?

So the AC is t working at all? They probably inadvertently emptied it when they tried to regass it! As you have a service plan, I’d suggest another dealer, but I know they’re few and far between in NI.
If you can find a reputable AC engineer I’d use them, however I’ve used my local Kwik-Fit to regass the wife’s MKI Focus (after Halfords said the compressor or the clutch or the condenser or the gas was “wrong”) and last week, my son’s Merc CLK500 and on both occasions they did a fast, efficient job.

Air con now doesn't work at all. It was set to Lo and A/C in for the return journey by the service manager who was obviously trying to get it to work.

Was it MS, Belfast?

@BPL  Do you not have a Service Plan Warranty Policy to read the T&C,s and exclusions rather than having to go by what someone says?

They can surely show you a copy since they apparently knows the terms.

That's next item on agenda still reeling at their incompetence

If that area is handy to you, you could give BTS performance centre a ring and let them look at it for a second opinion. Clean, tidy and very competent. He’s based on Green road, not far from MS.
He’d likely sort your other issues without hassle as well.

Thanks you would think a service plan which includes MOT would cover all this.....

I have similar issue with my Karoq, well, almost. I have no cold air coming out while using air con. Issue started last summer, by the time Skoda Glasgow looked at it, it was October and air-con service was done which I had to pay for about £90.

This year when we had couple of warm days I started air con and again - no cold air! Back to Skoda Glasgow and they found a leak and 2 seals at each side of condenser needs to be changed at a cost of £300! Luckily, Skoda managed to get through warranty and I should not pay for it. I have a 2 year Additional warranty from Skoda when I bought the car from the dealer last June, so I am almost out of warranty. I hope it will fix the issue!

@Vlady  Was that Henry Skoda Glasgow?

Not actually Skoda just a franchised dealership.

Well, to be fair they are all franchises.

Indeed.  Henry's is pick which one and luck of the draw.  Depends who might be working there at the time.

And not much choice is Glasgow, and near there are some best avoided, Arnold Clark & Park's.

I agree with you - depends who you are dealing with. I prefer to deal with Andy, he's been great so far. Other Service guy (he is new) was not so great. Everything I call them I ask to talk to Andy.

Update-reegassed by local independent garage using Mahle system and f gas. Passed all tests including vacuum andregassed £100 no charge if fails. I think the Škoda machine is faulty or not used properly. I have UV tracer liquid in it now.

Well, knock me over with a feather… not. I think they

  1. didn’t bother trying to regas it or
  2. didn’t have the expertise to regas it that day, or
  3. both and finally
  4. they’d rip you off by replacing parts that were not required.

And hands up all those who really thinks a dealership would never do number 4. Well, it’s happened to me on more than one occasion at two Skoda dealers, once with a wheel bearing the Octavia and two parking sensors the MKI Superb. Neither of these dealers are still in business.

They said the machine would not progress as the vacuum leak test failed. My vacuum leak test passed 0 leaks.

Which independent? I’ve not been impressed at all by MS Belfast. Made an appointment in March for heat shield/mat-thing recall. Got a call day before: don’t bother coming they’re on back order. We’ll call you. I’m still waiting in June.

They say they've done my recall will ask
