Car not starting after ECU unplug

Featured Replies

Hi,

I unplugged my ECU because I was wiring in cruise control. So I pinned the cable into pin 64 but when I put everything back together the car isn't starting. I checked all the pins and everything looks fine. I depinned the cable and tried but still no start. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

Check you haven't bent any pins plugging it back in.

Did you disconnect the battery before doing the work? Reconnected??

What is happening when you try to start it? Cranking, or nothing?

My friend  had a very simular issue like this , you must dissconnect the battery before removing said ecu connection and the ecu must be re-connected before battery is connected up, he did not do this and just as you did plugged it in, car would crank but not start, tried loads of things fuses etc but nothing , in the end he had to send the ecu to a firm in Plymouth that offers  a repair service on ecu's the initial charge was £60 and they will ring you if they find further issues, his had a blown capacitor probably from plugging it back in with power on the line, but hey ho we all have to learn some times the hard and expensive way

Ok, don't check then.

It would be a MAJOR rookie error if you've been plugging and unplugging the ECU without disconnecting the battery, if so, you've probably bricked it!

When I said no, I meant they're not bent. I think it's bricked, does anyone know how to sort it?

  1. Buy "new", proven good, ECU.
  2. Disconnect accumulator.
  3. Now and only now, insert new ECU in socket.
  4. Now, and only now, reconnect accumulator.

If you were expecting a method for fixing rather than replacing a bricked ECU, it can't be done.

Have you got any details for the firm in Plymouth?
