Towbar fitting or towbar prep

Featured Replies

We really must have a towbar on our next car......Looking at a karoq OR an Ateca.

I have read that some cars are pre prepped at factory, but what about aftermarket fitting. I dont need all the fancy cooling fans etc, have never needed anything like that on previous vehicles with a towbar...whats so special about Skodas??

Have YOU fitted an aftermarket one or had one done for you????

I have an aftermarket towbar and 13pin electrics fitted on my karoq, was considerably cheaper than one from soda and was fitted in my drive by the company that sold it in just over an hour. The only thing about it is I have to switch off the parking sensors to reverse. Not really a hassle at all. All the caravan electrics work perfectly. I think it cost just under £500 fitted when skoda wanted over £1200 at the time.

Yes, I am reading up on towbar fitting on faceache and the Karoq forums.....

All this BS about extra fans etc is nonsense......

If you want a detachable with 13 pin dedicated electrics fully coded prices seem to be around £800-£1000

If you are buying a Karoq without towbar or towbar prep then double check the GTW on the weight plate is not marked as 0 Kg

With Factory towbar and towbar prep some models did get slightly increase cooling but it depended on engine.  For instance the 150PS diesel and Petrol models a slightly different fan and holder is fitted that allows more air through when the fan isn't running.

Not really required for modest towing in the UK though

TA read about the weight plate and obvs thats a must have. We will only be towing 250 kg max....and looking just for a reg ball end

I don't know what my plate says, but certainly have no problem with my 1350kg caravan behind. Ì use the manual change mode towing or it hunts between the gears too much, and it does not run any hotter towing, but then I'm mostly in the northern part of Scotland where it is always cold!

We also towed all around the EU in our C5 years ago, in the peak of summer and never had a problem. The C5 was also an auto and like you, we used the manual side of the auto box , was much better. TY

No fitting in east Cornwall!

Should be able to find somewhere local for a similar cost though.

Or maybe a ride up to Exeter.

Buying a Karoq with a factory fitted towbar can push the purchase price over £40k (uk) which adds £600 to the RFL for the first 6 years, applies to new and used. I opted to have the ŠKODA swivelling  towbar fitted after I’d got the Karoq.
