Headlight ballast needs replacing

Featured Replies

Hi, have a 2016 skoda octavia VRS wagon. One headlight stopped working. Purchased new globes (more blue in colour than original philips lamp), one still not working. Found an OEM ballast on ebay for 20% of the skoda list price but now need to change myself. Need to remove headlight which requires removing the bumper. Anyone done this and can pass on any advice for sticking points? Also does anyone have a solution for the DRL built into the headlights not working?

As far as I was aware, the DRL not working is a replacement headlight job because the headlight needs splitting, unless thats a route you want to go down. Id imagine a second hand headlight would come with the ballast too.

Unfortunately I have 1 headlight with DRL faded and yellow coloured and the other not working at all. Not interested in buying 2 headlights considering the price

Theres probably how to's of how to replace it, but as mentioned the headlight will need to be separated. The other option is turn the DRL's off completely via coding.

Price wise, £150-300 per headlight seems to be about the ball park on eBay for used units.

Successfully got half the bar off, got the headlight out and changed out the ballast for one i bought off ebay. the issue i have now is that "sometimes" that headlight doesn't come on until i pull out the dial on the dash that turns on the fog lamps and then the head light comes on. In a week its happened maybe twice which is annoying. Anyone have any insight into this issue? Is there something to do with coding now that i have a new ballast installed?

Your new fault sounds as if you have a faulty switch module.

Where is that located. Behind the dial on the dash or elsewhere? Cost and difficulty to replace anyone know?

Behind the dial on the dash as far as I know - it's the body of the switch.

I believe I have seen reference to removal for checking being fairly easy, not done it myself though.
