DSG reset

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have the Octavia Mk3 with a 7 speed dry DSG, I have seen some YouTube clips that show resetting the DSG so it learns my pattern of driving. Is that something I should do with a used car? Thanks.

I did when I bought mine. Have the 6spd, but I guess it's not diff.

Don't know if it made much diff though?!

Did you do it via OBD or by foot fully on accelerator ignition on wait 30 seconds, ignition off whilst accelerator still fully pressed wait a bit then keys out etc. thanks.

Thanks, not got round to how  OBDeleven works or how much it costs, I will do some research on it. Thank you.

currently its around £59 with no subscription, does most things. I think a 1 year subscription with it is around £85

VCDS around £250 I think it is, but no yearly subscription

If the car drives well and the DSG feels fine then drive it, drive a bit spirited and the DSG will do it's thing just fine.

But if you want to try the DQ200 DSG reset then why not. What is the worst that can happen?

Has the DSG had Service Campaign '34H5' carried out since 2017?

That was a software update for some from 2013-2015.

Might not show even if done, and will not show if done, so check with a dealership if no sticker in the spare tyre well with '34H5' and a dealer stamp and date.

Thanks, I did check the recalls and nothing is showing so will ring the dealer tomorrow and also check in the spare wheel well. Cheers

The DSG reset is a red herring.  It doesn't change any driving characteristics and the DSG does not learn.  What it does do is adapt to varying driving conditions over time regardless of if you reset it or not.  The reset you get in OBDeleven/VCDS is clutch point adaptation that can have affect on how the gearbox shifts.  However, it will return to how it responds during normal use.  If you drive it with harder acceleration more often, then it might be more eager to change gear. If you drive more gently it will be a little more sedate.  No amount of resets or adaptation will change that.

If you are wanting faster shifts then it either needs a service or TCU remap.

Another thing to add.  I would be weary of resetting the bite points in the dry boxes as the process is quite intensive and loads the clutches up.  The heat generated would make me nervous with no cooling medium on the clutch pack.

Thanks, I will leave well alone.
