Dropped a piece of dry pasta into windscreen air vent

Featured Replies

Issue as described! I can hear it sliding from side to side if I corner at some speed. No other issues but it's annoying. I've tried fishing with a straw to see if I can locate it, no luck. Changing where I direct the air hasn't made a difference to its location. How can I retrieve this - will my local garage have a solution?

Vacuum cleaner with the blower on full speed?

A random one but something I've often thought about.

You could try setting the climate/HVAC to windscreen only, removing the pollen filter and then sealing up all the gaps around the box to create a vacuum and use a powerful cleaner to suck it out.

Fan on full pollen filter will catch it then take pollen filter out

That's a tricky one.

I would suggest first  cornering so you position the pasta to one side or the other, so at least you know where to "fish".

Secondly, I'd use something sticky on the end of a long cable tie to fish for the pasta.

If you can firmly affix some nano-tape to the cable tie, that stuff is sticky and doesn't leave residue, but obviously you don't want to drop anything else down there, particularly something sticky.

Have you tried looking through the windscreen into the vent from outside with a powerful torch to see if you can see the pasta?

Thanks to everyone for their advice! I was on holiday when this happened so I'm looking forward to testing some ideas this weekend. Will post an update.

Eventually it'll probably lodge itself in the pollen filter...

Slightly better than mine, removed the A pillar trim to install a dash cam and one of the spring clips broke in two and half of it went down the bloody inside of the pillar! Luckily, it's never caused an audible problem, which is what I was worried about...

I think this is probably what has happened as the rattling has stopped! So I won't intervene until the filter needs changing.

(My first step was otherwise going to be attaching some hose to the end of my hoover.)

why has noone asked how a piece of dry pasta ended up in there in the first place?

I've been thinking about this since I first read the post
