Felicia with a central lock-unlock switch?

Featured Replies

I want to install a switch in the console or dashboard to lock-unlock the doors.

Can be done the way i see it in this video?

I want to do it for two reasons:

First sometimes with my elbow i press the lock pin and then when i want to come out it's awkward to pull it with my hand

Second for security reasons, i don't want to do this movement when something dangerous happens.

Must buy a specific pin numbers switch or a Universal can do the job?

The work can be done from the driver's side (remove panel etc) ?

It's as this video shows?

Any universal swith will do the job? How many pis must the switch have?

Here are two examples from other cars, not mine: if i don't manage to put it in the (side) dashboard

i will put it close to the door handle.

If you want central locking for the sake of it that is up to you.

But if your elbow is hitting the the door lock pin then keep your arm nearer your side and not sticking out, you have a steering wheel not handlebar, perhaps alter your driving position.  This in combined with selecting gears with the gear lever inappropriately then you might need more physical restrain with arm-ties, HANS and seatbelt harness, or driving  more appropriately for car/road conditions.  Otherwise you might want to check body coordination with a medical practitioner.   Unless you're well over 2m tall and struggle to fit in the car.

How does someone select inappropriate gears or select gears inappropriately with the gear lever?

What does that have to do with the other elbow?

How should ones body coordinate with a medical practitioner?

The suggestion of physical restraints for arms and head, was that intended for another forum 😁

Where is the weird thing to have the ability to lock your doors with a push of a button instead of turning your torso and hand to push down the lock pin?

I don't try this way

but many times when i stretch my hand to give money to the toll-cashier or give my papers to the Traffic Policeman i engage the lock-pin.

Another example here and here

WHY must i release the seat belt and turn my hand to lift it up when i can do the job with a push of a button?

It's mainly for safety-practicality and thousands of cars already have it, so where is the ''surprise" of what i am asking to do? 🤨

I completely understand your frustration and desire, I think its a very worthwhile modification.

It's not you that is in need of restraints!!!

I was tempted to put you might be driving too fast and/or you suspension is bouncing your body around the cabin but as those subjects have already been fully exhausted before I didn't.  😁  (smiley to be sure)

IIRC(?) in Australia you can't drive on the roads with anyone putting their limbs out of a window.

A Universal 4pin switch can do the job?

Sorry I don't know your car, its wiring, what might be controlled by what, which switch or kits might be any good or not, I can do simple electrics and no more.  Your installation might be extremely easy or they might be some considerations needed on top of dealing with 24 year old connectors and wiring and installation.

It's right on the central locking unit:

DO means remote unlock (Dálkové Odemknutí), DZ means remote lock (Dálkové zamknutí).

The functions are activated by connecting them to the ground. You need either two push switches or a 3 position switch, similar to window switches.

2 separate switches colud fit better here, 1 common ground and 2 commands lock-unlock.

I have a switch like this, 3 position, can do the job?

No, it's on the firewall, behind the instrument coaster.

It must return into center position. There are switches for that purpose, with right diagrams, it'd be best to use those.

Sorry I thought all this was aftermarket parts I had no idea the Škoda stuff was still available (or already in the car).

Over here we would call them a 2 way momentary rocker switch and have a wiring diagram for such depending on type chosen.

ETA: the switch only holds at centre position, both side positions have to be held down as they spring the switch back to centre position if not.

Scrub that just realised I was thinking of windows, old man's mind drift.

Correct. You can see part of the wiring diagram.

Thank you so much for the infos but i can't do this, i can remove the panel by my self but its too much work these days.

Is there an alternative way?

Can my electrician remove the driver's panel and work there with the electromagnetic mechanism?

The removal of the instrument cluster should be a 10 min job, if you did it before...

An alternative would be manipulation with the switch inside the servo. According to the diagram, closing of the switch will send "lock" signal, opening will send "unlock" signal. So you'll need one push button in parallel to bridge the switch for "lock", and one in series to disconnect it for "unlock".
