Skoda Fabia Mk3 1.0 Litre Manual Window Lifter

Featured Replies

All,

I am trying to track down a Passenger Side Left Rear Window Lifter mechanism. I have tried Ebay and local breakers but all they seem to have is electric ones. The winder mechanism has jammed up completely on the old one so desperately need a replacement. Is this part unique to this Fabia and if not, what other car carries it or does anyone know of one going for sale. I have attached a photo of the offending article.

Any help or advice greatly received.

Steve

Hi, welcome Steve.

Is there a part number on it that could help your search.

It might not be as expensive as think if you check with the parts department of your local VWŠkoda Dealer, I've found some prices there for genuine new parts are good enough to chase round elsewhere and have delivery delays (obviously check availability and delivery with the Dealers).

Is there no way good quality penetrating/releasing and lubrication like GT85 might free up the metal, plastic and cable bits. - https://gt85.co.uk/  ETA: The very often used WD-40 Multi-Use isn't such a good or long lasting lubricant.

As when my wife first got her 2015 Fabia one of the rear window winders stuck a bit when I tried it and as the rear seats would only very occasional be used, and then not by the types to have the windows down, I make it a habit of occasionally opening the rear doors and fully winding the windows down and up again at least once.  Mechanical items like these are best exercised and especially as I've found some VW parts not to be so well made and long lasting, and I didn't believe in the out-dated German and VW engineering and build quality belief anyway.

I have just rang the SkodaParts site and have tracked one down. Its £100 plus £24 delivery. Part number is 6V0839401A for anyone else who reads and is in a similar boat (LH assembly). Would have preferred a second hand one but cant track one down anywhere so will have to go ahead I think.

The winder is seized solid. I have tried all sorts on it to no avail. Also, you cant get them apart to look inside which is annoying.

Thanks for the speedy reply Nigel, appreciated.

Ouch.

I meant the VWŠkoda Dealership that could be run by several companies (in name at least) our local one is called Marshall (at the moment). - https://www.skoda.co.uk/dealers/marshall-skoda-northampton

In your photo, it might just be a covering but it's twisted on top cable bit, the inner plastic sleeve with flange might have some kinda locating in the black arc bit, but you may just have slipped that out anyway.  When you get the new part if you want to you could compare it to the broken part and be able to take the broken part, er, apart, perhaps the bearing under the winder shaft.  If sufficient interest and time you might let us know how you get on and perhaps a photo of what you found to be at fault.

Cheers, good luck.

May have found a second hand unit for £50. The old ones definitely kaput. The winder wont move - I have had a large stillsons on it. The cables look odd as they have come off the runners. Maybe will take it apart when I get a replacement and have a look inside it will probably destroy it doing that.

Will Let you know.

Hopefully s/h unit is in UK so less than £24 P&P.

I'd clean and GT85 it in all the necessary places before fitting it, and of course test full operation a good few times before and after installation.

The fault might be under the shaft assembly which might be folded on to the bracket by look of your photo, time might tell.

Hi @trumpet67,

How did you get on replacing this? My mk3 manual window regulator is definitely on a shaky nail and I've already started the process of taking the door card off to get it out to inspect.  I might try the GT85 suggestion first by @nta16, but if that fails I'll be looking for a new/used one.  I'm confused by the electric/manual regulator parts, do 6V0839401 / 6V0839401A signify the manual version and the other electric?

This site has one for £100 but doesn't mention whether manual or electric...

https://skodapartsdirect.co.uk/product/skoda-fabia-hatch-2014-2021-window-regulator-left-rear/

The Autodoc site has multiple options as cheap as £30 but does mention an "electric operating mode"

I replaced the regulator on my mk1 fabia electric window years ago.  What a nightmare, I recall needing to drill out rivets and replace them!!! Hope yours went smoothly 😀

My wife's been at the NEC Classic Motor Show and brought me back four cans of GT85, £2.50 each and they include "60ml extra free" so I am restocked for a short while as my neighbour wants another can and another neighbour will need one when he runs out.

@mikear82 also clean and lubricate the inside of the window channel rubbers in the door(s) to make things easier and smooth and cut down on resistance, as Tesco tell us every little helps, and as I mentioned if the winders don't get used a lot give then some occasional exercise to ease them and stop them seizing up.

I'm not sure what the A on the end of the part number is about but you will see a difference to electric and manual I think. with or without the A on a quick search for me comes up as rear left (as you look at the car from the back facing forward, hence we have right hand drive cars) manual.

Hi all,

I managed to get one from a breakers on line for £50 delivered. I got it off Ebay. The LHS ones are rarer than rocking horse dung. New ones are £125 delivered off Skoda Parts Direct. I ensured it was liberally lubricated before fitment (I used a little bike chain oil as its very thin) and fitted. All ok now.

I took the old one apart out of curiosity, and inside the mechanism, it was dry as a bone. The cable had corroded inside the housing. Suggest the only way to prevent this is to periodically remove the door card and lubricate the cable, winding it up and down to distribute the oil.

Bit crap design and quality to be honest.

Part number of mine for LHS was 6V0839401A.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Every time I open the back doors I wind the windows down and up again at least once if not more and if I think the I've not done it for a while I make a point of don't it.  Doesn't take long and very little effort much better to me than getting messy farting about with mechanisms and potential of breaking any VW fantastic-plastic getting panels off because I'm doing the job with the wrong attitude.  It's worked so far, now no doubt Sod's Law will apply and one or both jam up.

By the way, if it has an electric operating mode, it is the wrong one for a manual winder. Do not buy an electric winder for a manual, it will not fit. Also to clarify, the new one off Skoda Parts Direct was £100 with £25 delivery!!! If you want to ensure you have the right one, give them a bell and tell them your reg number and they will tell you the part number  - very helpful guy. I was really tempted to buy new as at least you know that one is 100% OK. In the end, the one I got off ebay came with a 6 month warranty so I took a punt.

Part number of mine for LHS (UK passenger rear) was 6V0839401A.
