Retrofit camera for MIB STD2 PQ

Featured Replies

I have retrofitted mib std2 pq into 2010 superb. It originally had parking sensors but no camera. Parking sensors are working on the mib std2 pq. Now i want to retrofit RVC. Maybe someone has done this and can guide me what is needed for this?

1) camera and harness

2) coding

3) boot exterior handle with integrated slot for camera lens?

4) change of parking module to a different one?

5) camera with guidance line?

Anything else? What camera to choose from? there is low line camera and different kind.

The issue is that there have never been released OEM trunk handle RVCs of this size (90mm). If you do not want to cut your trunk lid then the only solution is to install aftermarket camera, e.g. LS8012 The biggest disadvantage of it is missing sprinkler which is present in most of 110mm wide OEM trunk handle RVCs - but to install OEM trunk handle RVC you must cut your trunk lid to increase the whole for trunk handle

Coding is required in both PDC / PLA module and infotainment unit.

Parking module (PDC / PLA) might require firmware upgrade or replacement, pls share part number of your current module.

To have guidance lines you must add camera controller 7N0907441B.

Hey, how can i find out the code of my current Parking module (PDC / PLA) ?

i have front and rear parking sensors on my 2010 skoda superb combi with oem towbar.

I have ordered the aftermarket cam LS8012.  Module for guidance lines is kind of expensive, I will skip it.

about pda/pdc module. Where is it located? I have obdeleven can i read the code using it?

There are a couple of threads in here. I retrofitted the "high" to my S2. You can get almost everything off ebay. I only had to order the lead to connect the head unit with TV and the new camera controller. Calibration was fairly easy.

Finally weather was suitable for some work on car. Added the wiring to the aftermarket camera LS8012, now to just connect it.

1) RVC cable has yellow RCA connector. Does RVC cable plug into MIB STD2 PQ rear port and thats it, or RVC requires any extra connection?

2) The question about PDC module. Currently I have such as below. Is it suitable for this RVC or should I search for other PDC module (such as 1K8919472C which has auto-turn on)? @pab567

    System description: PARKHILFE 8K
    Software number: 1Z0919475C
    Software version: 0006
    Hardware number: 1Z0919475A
    Hardware version: H06
    Serial number: 66541007404147
    Long coding: 110108

Typo

Ad. 1 - OEM camera is connected to QuadLock blue connector pins 7 (signal) and 12 (gnd), you eitehr need an adapter from RCA to OEM pins like the one below or cut the yeloow plug and add original OEM pins instead.

Ad. 2 - you will need to replace your PDC module, check if you are able to code camera in your current PDC. There can be three scenarios:

  • it's not possible

  • it's possible but you don't get a view of camera and PDC visualization on the same screen

  • it's possible and you get a view of camera and PDC visualization on the same screen

In case of first two you will need to replace your PDC. You can use either 1Z0919575G or 1K8919472C. 1Z0919575G is P&P while 1K8919472C requires re-pinning or special adapter. Big advantage of 1K8919472C is that it can turn on PDC automatically when you slowly drive towards wall / other car in front of you Of course in both cases coding might be required.

Finally have routed the yellow video cable from RVC to MIB STD2 PQ. I have added the adapter to the video cable. Unfortunately it’s not plug and play because there already is such plug with some already existing pinned connections plugged into media unit.

That goes with the assumption that I’m looking at the correct connector that goes directly in to MIB STD2 PQ in red circle pins in image below. There are already something plugged into other pins (black and red wires), that will have to be merged together or in other words, I need to repin existing wires with my new RVC wires in to the same adapter. Some extra photos https://ibb.co/album/tTgv9c

@pab567 hey can you help me with the pinout or comment if it’s the correct connector and pins I’m looking at?

Yes, this is the right connector pins 1 and 7 are for microphone (1 - signal, 7 - GND), 6 and 12 for RVC (6 - signal, 12 - GND).

I connected the rvc to the blue connector in those pins.

About long coding, i tried to enable it in:

park assist module

multi media

Gateway

Restarted the multi media unit afterwards. When put into reverse the layout was different, pdc stuff on the left side and working BUT camera input was black.

Either i have some physical connection issue with RVC.. or maybe im mising some more changesthat are needed in coding. I havent found any manual for this. Maybe some adaptation is needed as well?

See attached images.

Okay I found the issue. Somehow I assumed camera gets the power from the button connector. I connected it directly to battery and then plugged into tv and it worked. Whats the best option for power source?

Saw something about adding fuse splitter to dashboard fuse and take the power from there. Is this good idea? Dashboard gets power when ignition is turned on, therefore camera will also get power then I assume. Is there a better source?

@pab567 hey, where did you take the power source from?

Rear wiper engine. You have to find a cabe that has +12V when ignition is on. Or reverse light bulb ut in this case you should use a special filter on the power line.

I added power through adaptor by tapping into ignition-on power fuse 46 (seat warmers?). I checked the polarity of fuse to connect the adaptor correctly. I used 5A fuse for the rvc. For coding it was necessary just on 5F and 10 modules (pdc module and multimedia). Will test later on adding fixed static parking lines by cutting the white rvc wire.

Sorry to sort of drag this off topic a little but I want to do sort of the same thing. Not having any idea what I’m doing, what’s involved in coding the later headunit to the car and amplifier? I’m mainly after it for Apple CarPlay but have to find one locally first 🤣

If you want to retrofit a RVC and do not have the knowledge yet look up the instructions in the write ups on these.

You will need to know some things as you will have your car appart to a fair degree.
