Front seat height

Featured Replies

Hi All

I'm thinking of getting a Roomster 1.2 TSI DSG for the wife, but she needs a front seat height similar to a Yeti or a Touran due to knee issues, can anyone advise please.

Best go and her sit in one and drive it.

Is it the height from the floor to seat base height that matters,

or the ground to sill then once inside the floor to seat base height?

Then seat base height from seat to the pedals.

@Robjon might know both & how they compare.

Hi Mark, the last time I sat in a Roomster was more than seven years ago but from memory:

Height from floor to seat base is maybe a couple of inches less than in a Yeti.

Height from ground to seat base is maybe 4 to 5 inches less than in a Yeti

If your wife needs seat height similar to Yeti/Touran, then I doubt Roomster would be suitable.

As @Ootohere has suggested, your wife really needs to sit in a Roomster to check its suitability.

Its likely to be closer to the Fabia, the front end donor vehicle of the cut n shut Roomster.

Whereas the Yeti is pretty much the same as the Octavia but with a suspension lift and taller profile tyres.

@J.R. With my right leg amputated and and artificial leg a Fabia vRS or any Fabia or Roomester was fine for me getting in and out and a low seat and distance to the pedals.

A Yeti height is OK, as i am not short, the seat height fine. The door sills outer & inner were not.

Putting my artificial foot in and out over the sill, and also dirty trouser leg.

Same thing with a Superb, i do not like the width of the sill to the inside floor.

I sympathise, there is a clean patch on my drivers door cill where my trousers rub against it getting in.

My clothes are so tatty you cant see the difference but the clean patch on the car stands out 😄

Actually for the last 4 months I have only worn shorts so its my calf getting dirtier!

It's all three really, she's fine getting in and out of my Yeti but does have the seat fully up to be comfortable when driving.

She currently has a Touran 1.6 TDI DSG, but that's just been written off and she doesn't do the mileage to keep a diesel healthy anymore, and as the 1.4 TSI DSG Touran's are all imports (in the age that we can afford) and a ULEZ car would also be a benefit.

Although a Yeti would fit the bill, I'm trying to find something with lower running costs and was hoping a Roomster was more suitable.

It must have room for three kids (two in car seats) with a large(ish) boot.

The Golf SV has one of the highest seats, or if older the Golf Plus.

My wife likes a high seat and has a Ford Cmax.

Thank you, the Golf SV looks to be just what we're after.

There is a lever to raise or lower the seat. The advantage with the Roomster is that you can slide into the seat without climbing up or lowering down.

I put a deposit down on a 2015 Golf SV 1.4 TSI SE DSG today, it's got a super smooth gearbox (no judder on takeup or gear change), SWMBO is happy with it, so that's most of the battle. Thank you for the heads up.

We did look at a Yeti with 65k, but it was rusty and way overpriced for the condition.
