Im looking some help advice, i have a mk3 estate VRS DSG diesel PFL and it has a clunk,knock,creak from the front end, I've had it up in the air this morning on a jack, wheels off had a dig around cant see anything obvious, no snapped spring, balljoints all appear ok, the droplinks dont seem as tight as id expect but this is the same both sides, is there any common issues associated with these front ends? I had a mk6 golf and they were prone to chassis creak, there was a mod kit released that was basically a serrated washer that went between the subframe and the car body, any help gratefully received.

Lower control arm bushes, very common.

You can take them out and grease, or I managed to get some grease in without doing that.

 

Ultimately I replaced them.

Top mounts are common to go also. I'm just waiting on replacements to do mine and lots of creaking coming from the off side.

Thanks both, it's going in the garage Friday for diag I'll do the work myself just couldn't find anything when I looked

possibly weeping shock absorber - mine looked OK until I realised the spring cup was full of gunk from where it had been leaking.

So went in today two test drives and an MOT tester check on a vibrating knock test machine thing and no faults found 🤦🤦

It not a fault its the shared platform of the car same thing affects golfs the top mounts just don't like low speeds

Never had the issue until now 🤷

I had an S3 brand new that never had it either assuming these are the MQB platform 🤔

Depends what year the S3 is - I had a brand new S3 in 1999, and that definitely was not MQB as MQB hadn't been designed then!
