Seat belt locking

Featured Replies

The front passenger seatbelt intermittently locks and won't pull out.  Dealer investigated and could find nothing wrong.  Service Adviser came out to the car with me before I drove away and selt belt had locked. Sceptical technician came out and he couldn't shift it either so acknowledged that it's not my imagination.  New mechanism ordered 5 - 6 weeks ago but still waiting for it to arrive.  Has anyone experienced seatbelt locking or have suggestions to the cause and/or remedy?  Kamiq SE  DSG 2020.

Presumably the remedy is replacing it, which is what is being done?

Until the part arrives I’d insist that any passenger(s) you have sit in the back.

Either that or make sure you have a decent seatbelt cutter every time you have a front seat passenger.

Dramatic maybe, but worst case scenario is that your front seat passenger NEEDS to get out of the car (could be for an emergency like medical or a car accident) and they can’t……because ŠKODA couldn’t be bothered to rush through the delivery of the part to have it fixed.

Im speaking from operational experience, you do NOT want a passenger using a seatbelt that doesn’t release.

Bang on the door of your dealership every single day until it has been fixed, whatever it takes.

I would be.

Yes, it will be remedied when the part eventually arrives.  I am avoiding using the passenger seat, though it's the part on the pillar that locks, not the part the belt clicks into.

This usually means that you're jerking on the belt too suddenly, so that the inertia reel locks. It's unusual to be able to reproduce the issue with 3 different people though.

Gotcha, I misunderstood.
