1.2 TSi DSG Reliability

Featured Replies

I had a look at a very nice 2014 1.2 TSi with 7 speed DSG gearbox and 40k miles. I've since read that these boxes may be problematic.

Are they best avoided or generally OK?

Make sure it drives well and has had some Skoda dealer services at some stage in its life that would have caught any issues before it went out of the dealer network.

We have had 7 x DSG Yetis and one manual. Half and half petrol and 4x4 diesel which have different DSG boxes. Highest mileage in two were over 100,000.

Never had an issue (so far) except one was slightly jerky when cold.

Thanks @Prezafab

It was main dealer serviced up until 2018 then it was sold to an old geezer who used the local mechanic around the corner.

It drives spot on. Just as slick as the auto Jags I used to drive but much, much slower!

And still very good on economy compared with a regular autobox of the same age. If you have been happy with the 1.2 in the Roomster, the DSG makes good use of that engine's low down torque and power delivery.

If you search enough on here there will be lots of opinions on changing gearbox oil or leaving it well alone. If it's smooth now, then enjoy.

@SteveXFR Check if it,s DQ200 DSG required and had the Service Campaign '34H5' carried out at the Main Dealers in 2017.

That was started in 2017 on some from 2013-2015. Not all required it doing, but ask if it was done.  A Skoda Main Dealer can check or Skoda Customer Services might actually. or just refer you back to a Dealership.  (It was a preventative measure against pressure / heat issues and failures, a software update.

Has it had new spark plugs, is there a clean air filter fitted, and when was the brake fluid last replaced?

If it's not been done but driving OK now, would it be worth buying and getting it done? It's not a main dealer selling the car.

If it drives ok then that is fine.

If it has not been done and outstanding it still gets done Free. It was a Service Campaign / Recall Action. Worth having done.

It did not show on here for a few years ans still might not, and would not show if carried out, but there should be a sticker in the spare tyres well with '34H5' and a date and dealers stamp.

I have had 2 1.2 DSG Yeti's and never had any problems with either. Great cars, averaged 44 MPG over 100,000 miles plus. Why Skoda haven't made anything half as good is a mystery to me. The Yeti is one of the better cars ever made.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I paid a deposit this morning and I'll be collecting the car Friday.

I'll be back soon with more questions. First job will be to get a DAB radio fitted.
