Traffic Sign Recognition

Featured Replies

Question for Forum members who have TSR on their Karoq, or have experience with it on other Skoda models.

1. Does TSR pick up the speed limits displayed on motorway overhead gantries and the matrix signs over lane 1 on smart motorways?

2. Does TSR interact with Cruise Control and Speed Limiter or does that require Adaptive Cruise?

3. I know the speed limit detected is display on the Virtual Cockpit, but does the choice of Cockpit display affect whether its displayed?

Thanks in advance.

We have this on our Karoq. It's a 2018 model year.

TSR does recognise overhead gantry signs. It also recognises temporary speed limit signs on slip roads and sometimes signs on side roads. What I'm saying here is that it's neither reliable nor foolproof.

It doesn't work in conjunction with cruise control in our car but we don't have the adaptive version.

We have conventional instruments and a centre screen, so I can't answer your third point.

Question 1 - Yes.

Question 2 - More difficult to answer. Our 2024 Karoq without Adaptive Cruise - No. My 2022 Superb with Adaptive Cruise works differently inasmuch as it knows well before a lower limit area and enters the lower zone at the correct speed - if it picks up a lower limit signage, be it temporary or a 20mph school area, it just nags and flashes the lower limit on screen, just as it does if I exceed the posted speed limit.

Question 3  - I've not noticed the speed limit missing on any screen choice on either vehicle.

Does the TSR use a camera to read speed limit roadside signs (or even speed limits painted on the road) or have a location database that uses GPS to determine the speed limit?

The Navigation display has a configuration option to have the speed limit for the current position of the vehicle. This is from the mapping data, so is only as accurate to the time of the map updates. So it does nt pick up motor way variable speed signs or adhoc roadwork limits.

It does on the our mid 24 model - in fact it grabs any number it can - speed alert going off regularly for random signage.

It seems like Traffic sign recognition is now standard on all 2024 models, probably down to EU regs!.

As long as its not irrevocably linked to the speed limiter then that's ok. In my experience with a previous vehicle, its by no means flawless. My route into the office involved a set of traffic lights on a busy dual carriageway with a 40mph limit. The system would regularly detect a 20mph sign on a side access road as I accelerated away from the lights. If the TSR had been linked to the speed limiter I'm sure I would have ended up being rear ended!
