If an auto car breaks down

Featured Replies

Hi all , had my 15 plate Octavia dsg for about 6 weeks now , love love love it but having never owned an auto before , I’ve been wondering , if your say in the fast lane on a motorway and the car suddenly cuts out , what happens?? What do you do? In a manual you can naturally put your foot on the clutch to keep rolling , I’m guessing in an auto you put it in N and try and coast to the hard shoulder??
 Thanks

That would work, or if you have the ECO drive mode option you could utilise the coasting function.

Just be careful you dont overshoot and stick it in Reverse (or even worse Park but I dont think that would happen)

but seriously its a question I haven't given any thought about.

I would either "carefully" put it in Neutral or just leave it in gear and maintain control otherwise utilising any engine braking to best advantage.

Intersting suggestion about using the Edo Coast function.

Apparently the minute you touch the brake the car goes back into gear
