New bi xenon?

Featured Replies

Hi all, is it true that if you fit new brand new bi xenons to a 2010 skoda superb elegance that they have to be coded to the car with vcds ?

No they aren't coded to the car.

You will need vcds or similar to put the headlights in adjustment mode when you align them.

Thanks, now I need someone  to do it ?

Just to be sure, are you replacing the entire headlight, or just fitting new bulbs?

New PROJECTORS and bulbs, old crusty projector out, NEW retrofitlab  projector in with a better more modern lens, needs the front lens to come off to fit it.

I " was" going to fit new genuine  hella headlights, but all the ones advertised  on Ebay are for European,  RIGHT HAND DRIVE cars, but they neglect to tell you that in the listing, stating that they " are" suitable for  UK roads, and then adding that they " may fail the mot" !!!! You can buy from skoda, but I think UK headlights are roughly £700-£900 EACH, that's why I've gone down the projector route, now if I can find someone  to fit these for me 🤔

From retrofitlab q&a.

Hmm are they talking about replacing the entire projector assembly or just the reflector bowl?

On the Superb they are AFS-2 which combines the swivel corner function with a rolling shutter to give different light patterns at different speeds.

Replacing the entire projector setup you will definitely lose the rolling shutter function. I've no idea if the corner function will continue to work without that.

Is there a reason you want to replace them?

Cleaning the projector lenses with a new set of bulbs made quite a difference to mine..

Interesting, this video shows a solution but you will lose the rolling shutter.  Whether that matters is up to you.

Well my superb is a 2010 model with 235000 miles, and I think they're the originals,  how did you clean the projector lenses without removing  the front cover ?

Most of the time the issue is hazing or clouding of the outside cover. You can polish this up by wet sanding and restore the lighting performance a lot. The HID bulbs themselves also degrade substantially over time, so if they're the originals on your car they're almost certainly knackered and you'll see a big improvement by replacing them.

Been there, done that, polished the lens, quality Philips  bulbs , the headlights  are 14 years old , the aluminum coating on the projector lenses degrades. Period.

Hi All

I am new to this site and looking for headlight advise. I have a  2014 Elegance Greenline which I bought new  and it has 282000 miles on it now and has definitely been the best car I have ever had.

Last week the nearside headlight went. I looked at YouTube videos on how to change the bulb but they are nothing like mine. I have found bulbs online, Osram seem good, at about £35 with the preferred 4300k temp.

If anyone can point me in the right direction for fitting them that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This should help.  Yours is likely the Superb 2 facelift so may be slightly different.  I know my wife's pre facelift are D1S bulbs.  It's possible the facelift are D3S.  While D1S and D3S look very similar, the bayonet fitting is different so not interchangeable.  I think the only real difference besides that is that D3S are mercury free.

Unfortunately with a facelift car like yours, the D3S bulbs need the bumper off to give the required access.  My VW indy did this for me a few years ago with OSRAM XENARC ORIGINAL D3S  which are currently around £45 each from Amazon and these restored headlamps back to as new performance.

PS well impressed with your 282K on the clock, thought my 63 plate 4x4 TD170 was doing well at 150K

Re 282k, it has always had it's oil changed when needed. Everything still works and being a Greenline it still does 70 to the gallon on long motorway runs.

I got a new small car last year but was only offered £500 in PX due to mileage. I couldn't let it go for that so I'll just hang on to it. £20 a year road tax is good too👍
