Anyone know a place to get 02J billet driveshafts preferably in the EU?

Driveshafts seem to be the new weakspot snap the left every 2-3 months.

Welcome.

Sorry no idea,

but how much power is the engine putting out and what mods is it running, and is it on road it breaks driveshafts?

Right now its only pushing 300 hp stock engine, injectors, upgraded k04, dyno tune, dowmpipe and a CAI.

Got bigger plans for it thats why im getting even more worried about the driveshafts.

I've been driving it really hard last 5 months and broken 2 driveshafts. Now it broke while doing a pull and it broke when i changed from 1st to 2nd.

Found this site.

Looks promising but its US based.

Worth talking to the likes of Darkside Developments in the UK and see what drive shafts they use.

I asked them but they just told me they use stock axels on even the high hp builds, but told me to 02M swap it.

I will 02M swap it when i start pushing more out of it but i would like some stronger driveshafts for that.

Guess I'll just keep searching for a place in the EU that makes them. Not in a hurry but would be nice to know

I suppose that they are doing as many have for decades. They are sacrificial.  Cheaper to break Driveshafts than other much more expensive parts.

Do you have any type of LSD?  If so then the controversial approach could be to fit less sticky tyres.  With a bit of give in the rubber you should be putting less torque through the shafts.  With an LSD you shouldn't lose too much in the way of forward drive.

I think the biggest factor as why they're breaking is the roads here sometimes theres just a patch of dirt out of nowhere or just a slight bump in the road and one tire loses travtion for a split second.

Im gonna get an LSD when I swap the 02M in it.

Interesting. I drove my 245bhp, 310 torque Octy on 30 track days flat out, no problems. I did have an lsd fitted.

My sensible side wants to say, why drive so hard on the road?

Will be doing the 300bhp upgrade later this year on my other MK1 but I will be driving it respectfully, even when driving fast. I don’t expect to break anything…

Anyway….

I had my vRS up to almost 350bhp and 500nm, and didn't have any issues with the driveshafts. Several blokes in my vRS group have cars near 400bhp, with Wavetrac/Quaife diffs. Hell, I've seen a 500bhp TSI Occy with 670nm on standard driveshafts.

I note OP has a 2017 TDI - I presume it's a FWD model rather than AWD. Given that it's tuned to 300bhp (somehow) I would assume the torque to be up near 650nm, if Darkside is anything to go by.

If it's AWD then yeah, you might be breaking driveshafts. If it's FWD then there's no way you're getting enough traction, so I'm not sure how you're breaking them! Frankly, I'd expect you to break the gearbox before a driveshaft.
