Kodiaq RS mpg?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Currently owning a Superb Mk3 Estate (MY 2017 TDI190 DSG6 4x4 in L&K trim), I'm tempted to replace it by a Kodiaq RS MY2021 or younger.

Could some RS owners tell me what kind of fuel consumption that have? I'm not fixed yet whether a TSI245 or a TDI240. Thus information on both engines are welcomed.

Of course, I know fuel consumption highly depends on driving style and trips kind. It's just to have a rough order of magnitude.

My driving style is neither eco-mode addict nor 'lead sole' mode. I drive gently 95-98% of the time, and sometime put my right foot down.

Additional question, what is the fuel tank capacity on a Kodiaq RS? I'd like to assess if a 600km trip can be done without refueling in between.

Thanks for your answers.

I'd suggest you're going to get significantly better mpg out of it than I do, unless 'France' = 'Paris'. Most of my journeys are short and around town, with the odd (still short) motorway stint. I probably average 30mpg if I'm lucky, but it's more than possible to get 40mpg or more (a bit, not much) on a nice long journey.

That's a smidge less than 375 miles, so I'd say easily so. Even with my round town driving, the range when filling up is never lower than 400 miles, usually 410 or 420. If I've done a longer journey, the range can say anything up to about 460 miles when filled back up.

Thanks for this first reply. This seems a quite acceptable range, though I don't know the fuel tank capacity 🤭...

Fortunately, though I live close to Paris, I never drive there and most of my commute trips are traffic jam free ('average' speed is at speed limit, 80-90% of the time) .

Any owner who'd like to share his/her consumption?

Maybe a TDI240 owner ?

55 litres, I think. Somewhere around there anyway. Definitely more than 50, but I don't think I've got more than 55 in there even when running on fumes.

"Only" 55l ? I would have bet it was closer or similar to my Superb (70l).

Anyway, not bad. :)

Diesel RS has 60 l tank capacity.

I do usually 75 km to work and the same back. Some urban driving included. The cluster shows the range 700 - 750 km.

Couple of times a month I drive 1000 km a day. In these cases I have reached to the range of 830 km.

All this in case you do not exceed 110 km/h.

When I tow a trailer, range will vary between 580 - 660 km, loaded and uloaded.

Thanks @linni. I've just finished to overview the titles thru the 85 pages of this Kodiaq forum and was about to ask you, since I had noticed you do drive a diesel one.

Maybe @ZacDaMan72 could give his opinion too (if still there since he ended his Kodiaq RS ownerswhip) ?

Hey! Over 67,000km I got 8.5l/100km with mostly town driving and 7l/100km country driving. I think I've only ever gotten 800km out of a tank on roadtrips. On the same trip with my Superb 280PS I'd get 800-850km out of a tank.

The TDI suits the big Kodiaq more than the TSI in my opinion, it's a lot more satisfying with the extra 130nm torque. That said, I did replace it with a car that has the same engine as the Kodiaq RS TSI, so take that as you will...

I think this is the kind of argument that could tip the balance in favour of TDI.

The hardest thing is to find one on the french second hand market. It's quite rare...

If you limit yourself to no more than 3 years old, then your only option is a TSI.

No different in the UK - I think the TSI version sold a lot better than the TDI... I've certainly seen more of them around.

Thanks for this information, I didn't know that TDI240 was not manufactured these last 3 years (at least).

On the french market, it may be different. Not sure that Skoda has sold more TSI RS than TDI RS... 🤔 But you nevertheless may be right. Gasoline cars had better sales score than diesel ones these last years...

According to the guy from the official dealership, who sold me the car, diesel RS is more desirable due to consumption and specially for the the torque difference and there is not much of them on aftermarket.

I'll write this, having moved earlier this year from a 150 TDI 6MT 4x4 Superb to a 150 TDI 7AT 4x4 Kodiaq.

Kodiaq is worse on fuel. I could previously do the work trip - that's 800km in one day - on a tank without thinking in all weathers and still have 1/4 left over. Not with the Kodiaq. Smaller tank and higher consumption means that I did a couple of trips in snow at the back end of winter and I'm not sure I can get the 800 and still be comfy that I have enough. I don't want the light on when I get home at -25C.

Average is around 6.5l/100 in summer. That's easily achievable. The Superb would give me 5.7l/100, less with lower speeds.. I could almost get a 5.0 at some points. 6 was my long term average there (including some trailer work); the Kodiaq number is muddied by the 2000km from this summer with a caravan on the back, giving me numbers around 9l/100.

Same trips, same engine, manual vs auto, Superb vs Kodiaq. Similar temps. I haven't driven the Kodiaq in serious winter yet. Definitely 65l tank vs 70+l of the Superb.

Tyres are difficult for me in specific sizes. I cannot get the 235/50R19s in spiked winter versions for the life of me in anything other than Nokian 10s at an eye-watering price. IMO: Check the 20"s or the winter tyre availability and usability before decision time. Same with winter tyres if you need.

Car vs Car:

 - Superb centre armrest at the front was better

 - I prefer the Kodiaq seat position

 - I have badly scratched the underside of the Kodiaq wheel with jean rivets. I have easy entry on for this specific reason only.

 - The Webasto is just as effective, as is the ACC and pretty much everything else.

 - boot is a similar size and shape

 - the Kodiaq is slower, but not by much

 - the phone pockets on the seats don't exist and this annoys me

 - Adblue tank on my 2018 Kodiaq is only 12l, the Superb was 18. 12 is super annoying for 10l refill options. I have just pushed the car today to the "BIM! REFILL ADBLUE! No Start after 1000km" notification as I want to add 10l. That's irritating.

 - the Kodiaq was a joy as a towcar. Very pleasantly surprised, though more power would be nice.

 - LEDs on the Kodiaq are a tick better than the Xenons on the Superb. But the high beam is not enough, I have a solution for that.

Note that the battery may be in the trunk on some RSes, it's unclear to me which have it there.

Spritmonitor should give you some clues on the real consumption. See https://www.spritmonitor.de/de/uebersicht/45-Skoda/1575-Kodiaq.html?exactmodel=RS&powerunit=2

implies 8.5l/100 for a Diesel RS, 6.9l/100 for a TDI190 4x4 Superb, so a 20% increase. I saw around 5% from the same engine. And this is Germany, where things are likely to be more... pushed... than on the Autoroute du Soleil.

@brettikivi Thanks for your feedback. Good tip that spritmonitor.de. Though I use this App for my current Superb Estate Mk3 (TDI190 4x4 DSG6), I didn't think about it. 🙄😄

My average is 7.16l/100km (~39.5 mpg) over 123000km with my Mk3. I've just had a look for RS TDI240, its average is between 7.7 to 8.6l/100km (36.7 to 32.8 mpg). I think it should mean around 8.1 (34.4) for me... Just a bit curious, I've looked at TSI245, it would be more about 9,5l/100km (29,7 mpg)

I've made some search, it seems TDI RS was not sold in France after 2020. 😑

I'm hesitating to downgrade my spec to a TDI200 to still have a car which is less than 2 y.o. 🤔

Decision, decision...
