Thanks for replying. You have the same software and hardware as I do — does the same thing happen to you with the audio micro-cuts, for example when using Spotify?

Thanks

  • Here's my attempt at doing that:

  • Hello. So here's a couple of screenshots of the instrument cluster (there's also a screen for the navigation but didn't want to take pictures of that, but it's mostly the same option of layouts). Bonu

SOLD!! 👍

Just shown the wife & we are both in agreement, this is the colour we will be going for.

As you have had 3 mk4 vRS what was you reasoning for the Canton? Is the basic system really that poor?

Have you had or driven one with DCC?

Happy to have helped!
Not driven one with DCC, but this is my 3rd VRS and I've never felt it was lacking in comfort or handling (and we are in Shropshire, lots of fast, rural twisty roads and the car is perfectly capable).
I missed Canton on the last car, so it was the only option I went for - it's a massive improvement all round.

@Chucker  agreed. A machine polish & coating, it will look stunning 😎

Aero covers, going or staying?

Couple of photos ‘ outside the showroom’, Stage 1 polish and Ceramic coating now completed. I took

Aero covers off despite liking the look of them because of access to the wheels to clean them, and my concern ( and others), about the covers marking/ scratching the alloys. The dealer agreed with me on that no point.

Yes I don’t know how you are supposed to clean the wheels with the covers still on

Got a racing blue Estate with panorama roof and spare with 6 miles on the clock, 8 weeks ago. £10k off list!

How did you manage that isn’t that 25% off in the UK?

Hello everyone,

I'm deciding on my next car. I wanted something sporty as my last car (more than 7 years ago) was a MK6 Golf GTI that I was absolutely in love with. We have had other cars at home (Karoq and a Seat Alhambra right now) as the family was growing but they were mainly driven by my wife.

I'm deciding between a Golf GTI and the Octavia, the GTI is crazy expensive and at least in Spain it has a delivery time of 12 months which is crazy. So the alternative for me was the Octavia vRS but I have some questions that makes me not 100% sure:

  • First is the exhaust. I loved my GTI sound. And I see current GTIs exhaust and I would love to have those pops and bangs. Is this happening in the Octavia 2025? Because from the videos in the thread (Thank you!) it seems that it only happens when in sport mode and in high revs. That the car sounds good in overall? sporty?

  • The lenght, as it will be our second car at home I was more tending to a compact car like the golf as it will mainly be used to drive kids to school and to my work (pure Madrid driving and some highways... but I don't really need that huge trunk space tbh. Is 4,70m too much? do you find the car too big for the city?

Thank in advance for your advice. seems I need to make the decision if going for the Skoda before end of the year as they will apply new price increase in Spain on it starting on the 1st of January.

The EA888 isn't a very sonorous engine in any spec but the Octavia RS sports exhaust is pretty good. It has a decent bass but noise regs mean nothing is that great anymore. The GTI won't be any better instead it has artificial sound piped into the cabin like the old Mark 4 Octavia. I prefer the natural sound. There are some pops in the engine map in Sport mode. As for size, it is built on a lengthened platform with a longer wheelbase. I find it fine but if you don't need the size then maybe a Cupra Leon hatch would be a better choice.

thank you for your reply. It's true the Leon looks like a good alternative but at least here the 2.0 TSI it's almost as expensive as a GTI

Interesting. Here in NZ for about the same spec the RS and GTI are essentially the same price

Anyone looked at remapping there vRS?

Not while it's under warranty (5 years here) and then more likely just to buy another car. The prospect of some more torque and hp is attractive but the reality is there is only so much you can put through the front wheels and the car is quick anyway. How often do you run at full throttle? Me not very often and when I take the car for a backroads blast it's still mostly using the stout midrange through twisty turns rather than max throttle acceleration in a straight line. I've come from a 4WD car so still getting used to the wheel scrabble and the wait, wait ,wait to apply maximum power on corner exit. And just in case you think I'm some old plodder, I'm an ex motorcycle racer who still rides powerful street bikes and doesn't hang about in the turns but how quick something accelerates 0-60 doesn't really mean much to me as long as its brisk enough. The Octavia is case in point as although its slower 0-60 than the Superb its quicker once the wheels are turning (less driveline drag, less weight). There does seem to be a lad culture in the UK though that favours chipping everything innit.

ex biker myself ,so very helpful reply!!

0-60 & UK culture, not me mate 😆

It was more for the midrange extra shove vs stock. A FWD with lots of power, will bog down with way to much torque steer!!

How are you finding the DCC. Required or a nice to have?

Edited by rapport25

Agree with the above. No desire to remap as I’d like to keep my 3 year warranty intact. Plus, not that interested in 0-60 launch control as 1) my GSD isn’t a fan and 2) I simply don’t feel the need. I’ve owned plenty of (very) fast cars, but there’s something nice about the VRS offering usable power for UK speed limits.

My only ‘mods’ planned are mud flaps, roof rails and a dash cam. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to read the paper in my slippers and lean into my inner retiree.

Same here. Both fast cars & bikes.

Again, great to get feedback from someone coming from higher performance cars.

I really think my choice is perfect, for my needs & wants.

I really need to decide on my options & get the car ordered asap!!

DCC is great I use it a lot. Great to be able to soften it off just burbling around town and then tighten it up when having a fang. Best of both worlds.

Good morning,

Is anyone with a new vRS with this hardware and software, equipped with a Canton sound system, experiencing 0.5-second audio dropouts? A few of us on the forum are having this issue, and we’d like to know whether it’s related to the infotainment system or the Canton amplifier.

I'm pretty sure, there is a SW update from the dealer.

Not sure if I seen the post on here.

It's an option I'm looking to add. Apart from the issue raised, how are you finding it?

I’m waiting for the dealership to get back to me about the update (it seems it’s not available yet).

Apart from that, the car is amazing — power, fuel consumption, DCC, etc.

U know which post talks about the sound issue update?

I have the same (new VRS, Canton, and the same HW and software installed

I am streaming from an iPhone 17 with up to date iOS and no issues from Amazon Music or Apple Music (don't use Spotify), and it is rock solid with no audio dropouts.
There's no difference if it's plugged in on USB C, on the wireless charger, or in my pocket.

Well, it’s strange because it even happens to me on the radio. How long have you had the car?

There’s another user on the forum who has had the car for about two months and has the same problem.

Could it be a problem with the Canton amplifier or something like that?

Picked up car just before Christmas, but done enough driving / hours in the car to know it’s OK.
