Rear wiper driving me nuts!

Featured Replies

Hi all, can anyone please advise….. I have a 2020 Karoq 1.5 SEL.

I’ve looked at my owners manual and followed the steps, I’ve unchecked/deactivated the automatic rear wiper but it’s still continuing to come on!
If it didn’t rain so much I probably would be be bothered, however the noise on a dry back window……🤬
I’ve called my local Skoda where I purchased the car and they want to book it in for diagnostics, however, before doing this is there a setting somewhere that I’m missing?!
Thanks in advance 🙂

Have you got it turned on manually, by moving the rear wiper switch (even if you have turned off front wipers)

If it is deactivated with auto wipers then won't be operating

So everything is in the off position when I get in the car, then as soon as it starts to rain, I’ll pop the front wipers on which automatically starts the rear one going too (forgive me for being crap!) even though I’ve gone into the infotainment system and unchecked the “automatic rear wiper” off.

The switch will still operate the rear wipers even though I’ve unchecked the automatic box. I hope this makes sense……

On the  two Kodiaq’s I’ve had and the current Kamiq you have to turn of rear wiper when reversing option to stop the rear wiper operating intermittently.

The only way to disable this behaviour would be to code it out via VCDS or alike. I've got Bosch wiper on the back, no sound at all, even on a dry glass.

I was about to post the same thing!

When it's doing the rear auto-wipe thing, it's not very frequent (I don't know if anything controls it, but on very wet motoways it doesn't auto-wipe often enough) so if it's wet enough for the front wipers to be on then the rear would be at least a bit wet.

Oooh I may invest in the Bosch wiper blade if it helps with the noise. I find even when it’s a light drizzle, not quite enough for full front wipers, the rear wiper just goes on and on making that god forsaken noise.
The motorway home a few days back was torture…. no rain was on the rear but it was relentless….. Honestly, it shouldn’t wind me up as much as it does!

Owners with the unwanted random / intermittent rear wipe must surely have something incorrectly set else there’s a fault - I’ve had a 2019 Karoq and now a 2024 model and neither had / have this problem.

The only time the rear wiper operates of its own accord is when I have the fronts on and select reverse in the rain.

Is the wiper stalk definitely pulled forwards?

'Pulled rearwards'

I wish it was the same for me as you.  I definitely have the “auto rear wiper” unchecked and the stalk is pulled towards me.
I don’t mind them coming on when reversing, I just don’t want them on all the time when it’s raining. It’s ridiculous that it’s annoying me as much as it is, like, insanely driving me to distraction!! I’m putting it down to menopause.

I’m thinking there must be a fault but don’t know whether the warranty will cover Skoda running the diagnostics check…. I may call them in the morning and ask.

On my 2019 model, the rear wiper will occasionally wipe once when the front wipers are switched on despite the rear wiper being switched off. It only happens every minute or so - I have never timed it. Changing the settings made no difference to this 'feature' but I have now got used to it. Bosch wiper on the back and you will not even notice it happening.

Thank you and thank you to everyone who’s replied.

Smokeyjoe I’m definitely going to get a Bosch wiper for the back 👍🏼

As I mentioned above if you turn off the rear wipe when reversing option the random rear wipes stop. Just means you have to flick the rear wipe manually if required when reversing but worth it to stop the random wipes on a dry rear screen.

I’ve looked for the option to turn it off while reversing but haven’t had any luck… I can only find an option to turn off auto rear wiper within the mirrors/wiper option - which didn’t work.

I've been out this a.m. and had a play with the wiper settings - my personal default position for the wipers is to leave them on 'auto intermittent', this suits me, the rear wiper givers a single wipe when I select reverse, but only if it's raining and never wipes of its own accord as I drive along.

However, if I switch the front wipers to 'on', that is operating continuously, the back wiper gives a single wipe every 30 seconds or so.........perhaps I've never experienced this before because I only use the various 'intermittent' settings?

That's how mine has always worked.
