Hands free / End call

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I know I'm about to feel foolish very soon, but here goes. Can you end a phone call other than using the touch screen

I thought there would be a button dedicated to it on the steering wheel, but I can't see it, what am I missing

Apologies in advance for being a time waster 🤣

Yes, on the phone handset button on the right hand side of the steering wheel.

TBH I don’t know if you have this wheel or not, but touching this - twice I think - ends a current call.

Hi Guys

Thanks for this. I have two of these, one on each side. Right hand side selects a function, and then scrolls through options in the menu, pressing selects a menu choice function

The Left hand one controls volume on any audio (inc phone) current being played and a single press mutes or pauses. Haven't tried a double press, will do and advise

Sorry Mike, I obviously wasn’t clear enough.

It is the button with the telephone handset shape on it which I’ve circled below, I was referring to, not the scroll wheel.

Ok, understand, I just followed the 'C' !

Here is my steering wheel, no phone button. As far as I can see I have to use the touch screen unless anybody knows better ?

Ahhhh, right, so a different wheel. I’d look in the Owners Manual, Mike.

👍 Now where did I put that (had a look at the on line version, not helpful)

As long as the call is on the instrument cluster, end call button should be highlighted by default and you can press the wheel to confirm (press end call button). On the radio screen you need to go to the phone section where it will be there front and center

The problem is Mike doesn’t know which button that is!

I think pressing the right hand side roller ends a call?

Thanks guys. There is no obvious button, nothing highlighted, no obvious solution...........

The only this I get is an overlay on the touch screen which blocks the sat nav and is a little on the small side as, whilst in a moving car, you have to hit a small red phone icon !

I will continue to experiment and advise

The left/right arrow buttons on the right side should let you get to the maxidot phone screen. This is where you can use the scroll wheel to find a number you want and push the wheel in to select it. Once in the call you should then see the option highlighted to hang up. Scroll down for other options. Fairly certain you can scroll right to the phone "page" while on a call (if someone had called you for example). Then the call function options should be available as above.

It depends on how the call is initiated. If the call comes in , the dash and the head unit displays the call. The call can usually be answered by pressing the RHS roller, or accepting the call on the screen. I'd the call is out going and it is initiated by the Skoda phone system, ie. Scrolling through contacts on the dash or SL selection via the Head unit phone book or call log. If the call is initiated outbound via Android Auto or LONG pressing the assistant button, activating Google Assistant, then the only way to hang up is press the head unit onscreen button... Leaving a big greasy finger print behind !

This is my experience... Yours may differ.

Thanks again guys, interesting that the answers (other than use the screen) all appear to speculative to one degree or another. Does nobody make hands free calls anymore............... 😊

Hi Guys

Sorry for the tardy reply, sorted. NOT as easy as you might suppose. Problem is that the whole system is prioritised towards the touch screen (which all manufactures see as the future)

So, when you get the car you are able to set us a favs phone list and also search your address book on the 'big' screen. Press the number on the screen and the call starts, ITS ALL ON THE SCREEN. Incoming calls also light up on the screen, press to accept.

The right hand roller on the steering wheel can accept or end a call BUT ONLY is the phone function is selected  on the info screen between the speedo and Tacho. If it was set on, say Nav  or fuel range (my two go to's) pressing it will just change the selection in the menu option you have displayed, regardless of it there is a 'live' call in progress

So, if a call comes in, rather than accepting on the screen (easy) you would have to scroll through the small info menu, using the R/H roller button, select phone and THEN you can accept the call. Equally, if on a call, that you accepted on the screen, to END it on the steering wheel, you again need to select phone on the small info screen and then press it.

So, doable but totally counter intuitive. It's a software issue. its a multifunction button, tied to a selected menu. Really needs a dedicated button, no room. Alternatively when it detects a call it should auto switch to phone function to either accept or reject and during a live call. But it doesn't, first world problem, but be nice if it worked as you don't have to take your eye off the road, As it is you have to aim for a small red phone icon on a low screen and you HAVE to look to see and aim for it

Not sure you can't programme a short cut so I'll keep trying and let you guys know

Cheers

Yes, correct, the problem is selecting the phone menu takes ages (compared to just tapping the green phone icon on the screen!)

Correct, the problem is ''only if the phone menu is selected''

The software must be subtly different on the Passat then. I'm almost certain the call appears on the dash when it comes in thus allowing me to accept it reject via the wheel buttons. I also have a dedicated phone button on the wheel which does a few things:

- if not already in phone "mode" it will take you there.

- if on phone mode it will take you to the recents list.

- a third press will call the highlighted number.

The last two things can also be done via scrolling etc like in the superb.

The thing I don't have which I used to use all the time is the ability to pause/mute from the wheel. The only way to pause an audiobook or music is via the touchscreen or turning the volume tight down.

When I get a call inbound, irrespective of what's on the Dash Display,I get the option to answer the call using the thumb roller. Outbound is a different story.

Thanks for the comments guys. Need a phone buddy who is happy to keep phoning me even though I am deliberately ending the call either to check how I can do it or trying to phone him back to ask him to call me back (it gets old VERY quickly😁

Now wondering if a double tap on the right hand roller would work ?

Superb doesn't have a dedicated button......................

Yeah it was more about opening up the discussion about the differences in software and hardware.  The software is very similar to the point that the wheels could be interchangeable.  I actually have a wheel from my octavia that might fit.  Only thing is the airbag probably would work. I would definitely prefer to have the thumb wheels.  I might do some digging into compatibility.

I think they just gave up and settled on the screen solution. Wonder in the Mk4, just launched, has a better solution as Skoda seem to be keeping, going back to physical buttons ??

I was going to recomment this course of action, which seems the most adequate to find out really how to end the call ... 🤪

I could also suggest you stop talking/responding, and providing you do not breath loudly like Darth Vader, you will then "force" (no pun intended!) the other party to stop the call and then clear the area. Problem solved! Obviously you need NOT to pick up the subsequent call from the same person ... 😁

Simply clever, it said?
