Brake pad wear light reset?

The previous owner decided it's cheaper to just cut the cable of the plug for the brake pad wear sensor and glue it together than to buy new brake pads. Fast forward to today, I stole a plug from a crashed octy and tried my best soldering the new plug onto the old cable. Fresh brake pads, contact, oooo no error light. Drive a bit, damn light popped it's head up again.

Now I'm wondering, maybe there's some way of resetting the brake pad wear sensor error thing? Because the other alternative is that I'd have to hire an electrician to do a proper solder job for the plug and my wallet wouldn't quite like that.

No reset available. It's just the two wires. If the two ends make contact the light comes on, if the ends are insulated from each other, no light.

I don't know about in Romania but here in the UK I would suggest buying a replacement plug (part number 1J0973802) off Ebay such as

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/356136378067 that is delivered pre-wired.

 

If you buy the kit to assemble the old connector can be removed by crushing it into pieces so the two wires are exposed with the two pins still attached. Then the two pins can be inserted into the replacement plug together with the other components. This is what I did when I replaced my car's disk's and pads.

Well.. that's kinda what I did

I bought something similar to the second link but used, from a parts octy, since I can't find new in my area

Twisted them wires together, added a bit of solder, rubber.. shrinky thing on top, heat up, add some electrical tape as well (didn't have black color, hope that's not why it's not working), better safe than sorry, no change 😞

Ignore my crapped out disk, it'll go to the bin soon enough

Those wires are corroded. You will need uses a solder flux to aid tinning the wires before joing them.

That's what I did, lil bit of flux, heat up the wire, coat in solder, wait to cool, insulate.

The wires themselves seemed fine though, I thought the 'corroded' part you saw was just glue residue because it was sticky, cleaned with isopropyl and looked brand new, orange copper.

I had a similar issue, and joining the two ends together at the wheel didn't solve it.

As above, the copper cores were corroded and black.

A new piece of cable with the correct end fitting was about £70. I ended up cutting the cable in the engine bay where the corrosion hadn't reached. Then joining the two ends together.
