Glacier White or Moon White?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently bought a 2018 Skoda Superb Sportline. I remember asking what the colour was, Moon White Metallic I was told. This is confirmed by the paperwork I have telling me the specs of the car which the photo below is of.

After a few months of owning the car and wanting to touch in some small chips here and there I went into my local dealer (car was bought from a dealer 4 hours away) and they say that based upon my reg its Glacier White.

I have looked and cant find a sticker in the boot to confirm. How do I check this as I dont want to take the wrong touch up paint away as they will probably refuse to refund/replace.

Is Glacier White and Moon White the same? Unfortunately on Google it doesnt look alot different.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

Isn’t it on the sticker in the door pillar?

Note the paint code will be there not the name

I didn't know it was there but I shall check it tomorrow. Thanks @Danoid

@Danoid - The Build Plate on the door pillar won't have the paint code.

This is the Build Plate on the door pillar.

@Dooge - The build sticker in the boot with the PR Codes will have the paint code.

Or u jump on Skoda erWin, enter ur VIN number to find out.

This is the build sticker in the boot, showing the paint code.

Thanks JR RS, I have checked the boot and its not there! Its normally on the left next to the wheel well isnt it? Thats where it was on my Octavia but Ive checked the Superb and it been taken out. Cant even see any signs of a sticker.

Someone on Facebook did post this link:

https://tps.trade/info/paint-lookup?utm_source=Magazine&utm_medium=Print&utm_campaign=Direct+Insider+Magazine&utm_id=Direct+Insider

That link above shows it as Moon White Metallic so Ill go and challenge the dealer tomorrow 😆

Not surprised they don't know the colour- mine is Black Magic, but when I contacted Skoda HQ through their internet chat thing, the guy confirmed a different black (and, when I challenged him, basically said "its all black isn't it").

When I had my last service at the dealer, the confirmation email came back to say it was an Estate and it was a 2.0 TDI. Its a petrol hatchback. When I pointed it out, the reply was "don't worry, it will be our external system, we sometimes get errors where dvla have past over details". Not like they have any connection to a company with every minute detail of the car on a database.

If the DVLA database is that wrong, are you insured correctly?

Good question. The insurance companies all return the correct make/model when I put in the number plate so on that basis I'm going to say yes - on all the ones I seek quotes for anyway.  But if its anyone's responsibility, it definitely isn't mine.

If anything. what she said was hearsay speculation from an employee - don't know whether she's fobbing me off, whether it is an actual data error, if so whether the error is on DVLA or Skoda side if so etc etc. I don't know enough about how the DVLA get data and how its stored/transferred etc.

It has been challenging making sure I get the right parts recently as ordered brakes and a lot of motor factors still list 300m rear discs (4WD are 312mm) when (a) I put in the number plate and it comes back the right model. Although some don't distinguish between the 280 -> 272 -> 280 journey either. So somewhere along the way some databases aren't accurate or fully updated but...insurance company ones seem to be and if push comes to shove Skoda could find it if they could be bothered to...

Just a thought, isn't the paint code also listed in the full build code? Could @ApertureS confirm?

That sounds like a nightmare, I hope you get it sorted!

So as an update, I went to collect the touch up paint today. The lady who served me wasnt the same who served me on Monday and its labeled as the correct one. She said she didnt know why he would say it was Glacier White as it obviously ordered the correct one, at least its sorted!

Thanks to everyone, hopefully the TPS link will help some as well as Id imagine it works from some kind of VAG supplied database.

All good - was more anecdotal than anything; just meant needing to be careful when I bought the brakes (thanks to the forum if nothing else!) - looking for a correct remap is something else mind you

Ah its a pain though isnt it. I remember looking through Autodoc for discs and pads for my Octavia, that was bad enough for things that might fit but you always had to read the description and specifics.
