Dwindling Roomsters

Featured Replies

I love my Roomster but they are dwindling in numbers. The manufacture was stopped around 2015 and that means 10 years have passed since new ones have been registered for the road. To drive a legacy product of which many have already faced end of life is a triumph and the advice given on the Roomster forum is invaluable to keep the remaining models going. Thank you

Yes, it is rare these days that I see another Roomster. I periodically traverse most of the M25, and on most journeys I see "exotics" like Ferraris, Bentleys and Lamborghinis more frequently.

I've had my current Roomster, my second, for eight years, nearly 70k miles, and see no reason to change until it is forced upon me.

I bought mine new in 2013 and it has been the most reliable vehicle  I have ever owned with its original bulbs and only second battery. I have had no major expense. Just done 65k and years of life still left in the old girl. It gets pampered with a 3-monthly wax with Autoglym HD wax and still in showroom condition.

Ye, one of my most favourite cars.

Got my Scout in 2008 new, the first one in Coventry,  always amused me when people said, what the heck is that.

It was a goer with 1.9tdi engine.

Made it my own with, rear spoiler, leather seats and Audi TT wheels.

Was still in the family up to this year 2024.

I regally see another 5 to me locally, according to the how many left website, the numbers are of course dropping year-on-year but not dramatically although the numbers on the roads wasn't very high in the first place.

Seen 3 this morning and i was only 1 mile down to Tesco and a mile back.  It was not the same Roomster 3 times.

It is a Location location location thing.  Plenty were in this area because 3 Skoda Dealerships not that far away when they were on sale.

South Cambs / Newmarket area has loads, you normally see at least four in the local tesco carpark and more on the road, my last trip in saw one in the space next to me and two more in the same row.

I see quite a few Roomsters around, just not many for sale, it's a mark of a good, dependable car that does the job day in and day out.

After 12 years there have been a few repairs to our Roomster, most recently heater motor and control unit, and in the past tailgate and driver door wire looms, brake fluid reservoir, 2 new injectors, a new battery, new brake discs all round a couple times, I think 4 sets of pads, lower control arms, shock absorbers all round, timing belt/water pump  and the usual set of air, oil and cabin air filters, engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, gearbox oil.

Still, we're keeping ours until it dies, things that go wrong are so far serviceable on the driveway, and I enjoy a challenge ;)

Hi 'D'  just going on disc's and shoes, you must on 250,0000 miles on the clock, or do you do track days ? 🫣😁

ExpressRust brand discs and DeepGroove Pads ;) from factory, changed after ~2 years, the next set of discs lasted ~8 years and 2 sets of pads. 100k miles. No track days, but more than a few autobahn trips as well as at least 6 trips to/from Spain via Andorra/Pyrenees (nice views and fun drives across the mountains :) ), so yes, the brakes did get a workout over the past 12 years. Heater motor died on the very next drive after latest return from Catalonia, I guess the airco got workout there.

We are looking to buy a reaplcement for our Roomster soon too. There is nothing on the market to equal it. The manufacturers have all abandonned functional utility. Everthing is bigger and bulbous with poor internal space. Economy is lost due to the added weight and a load of techno bling that we don't really need. They make engines more efficient and then blow it on weight.

I may not stick with Skoda because there is a dominant dealer in the region who has most fo the outlets and I can't deal with them any more. They are thoroughly dishonest in my experience. There is another dealer I could use down in Lincoln but taking a car there for servicing is very inconvenient. I need someone close and hand and honest. Toyota is looking attractive desputre the crap gearboxes. Nothing Stellantis or Ford due to their crap engines. Nissan are just crap cars. Nothing classed and prestige either. I had a Mercedes once and the service costs are just stupid, Think about an oil changer service in 2015 for £585. BMW no chance. I bought one their motorcycles new in 1979 and it had a load of faults which they would not fix. They took it in to dealer and held it for months to run down the clock on the warranty. Horrible company. My son and his wife have a BMW car and it is one expensive bill after another. Does not leave much does it.

My wife ran a Honda Accord for years and that was a good car. I bought three new Hyundais in a row. Not great but good for the money when they were budget cars but the warranty was fictional. Everything was not covered. Physically broken anti-roll bar links not covered because they are a characteristic of these cars. FFS

I am giving my Roomster to the younger of our two daughters. Her older sister has one of her own already. The younger one has a new baby coming and the Roomster has all the space needed to be a baby bus. It may get her though a couple of years before the cost of maintenance makes it uneconomic.

I am hanging onto mine until Miliband deems it an environmental hazard. I did spot a VW Caddy Life version which looks a promising replacement if the Roomsters demise happened. As stated there is no replacement within Skoda or other makes.
