low oil pressure warning light

Featured Replies

Dear Skoda folk, can you help ?

2 weeks ago my low oil pressure warning light came on, very little oil was showing on the dipstick. No smoke, no oil drips no change in performance its done 108,000.

The car is regularly serviced. The car was taken a garage, they did a service, new oil, filters etc, cleared the code. The car went 80 miles and most of the oil was lost and the low oil pressure light came on again. The car went back to the garage and the low oil pressure sensor was replaced and oil replaced. 30 miles later the low oil pressure light comes on again, reasonable amount of oil present.

Any ideas folks ?

@chrisandrew64 TSI or TDI ?

Is it a Euro 5 2.0 TSI that there are known issues with as far as excessive oil use?

Do you not check the oil level regularly,  and if you do do you know where it is checked cold and as it should be checked, at the normal operating temperature.

so once up to 90*oC indicated or so.

The question is, where is the oil going if the correct quantity is in when topped up?

Hi thanks for the reply, I do check the oil before a longer journey, but not on local run arounds tbh.  Yep thats the engine.

From what i can research it could be the PCV , The pressure control valve, this may be faulty and dumping all my oil when it malfunctions. I think ill book it in with a VAG dealer/franchise who may be better dealing with this than a local garage.

Thanks

Holy moly.  That's some oil loss.  For an engine to loose that much, that I would be expecting a constantly stream of oil coming from somewhere, probably from the belly pan area.  I would suggest, don't drive it unless to your nearest Skoda dealer.

When you say it is that engine you mean the 2.0tsi? How long have you had the car? This is a new problem?

So its definitely been warning low oil pressure but also the oil level was also very low, and it continues to use a lot of oil.

For it to have come on like this, all of a sudden,  rather than gradually, it sounds like a failure. But I'm surprised you haven't seen smoke or pools of leaking oil. If the pcv diaphragm is completely gone, I guess it could use a fair bit of oil but you should likely see smoke or smell burning oil..    You can do some relatively simple checks on the pcv or replace it, it's about £100 as part only.

Hi Thanks for the message.

I've had the car 8 years and it is a new problem.

There is no smoke even under acceleration and no pools or drips of oil.

Its booked in next thursday at a VAG dealer, ill let you know what happens.

Chris
