Plastic covers for steel rims

Featured Replies

Hi,

I really struggle to mount the plastic covers on the steel rims for my 2017 Superb. This is not just to knock it easily in place, as seen on youtube videos, and like on my previous cars.

Anything I may do wrong?

Wheel covers that’s going back some years

Only thing I can think of is make sure the tyre valve is properly lined up with the wheel cover value hole then cable ties

I'm guessing that you are fitting steel winter wheels and just want to make them look better by fitting some suitable wheel covers.

So, many VW Group wheel covers nowadays get fixed into place by using a set of small holes on the wheel, if I'm correct, then maybe you have bought some modern VW Group wheel covers that have these fixing pegs/legs but the wheel is not 100% correct for your car and or as they don't have these small holes for these pegs/legs to pass through.

When I had that problem with my wife's 2002 VW Polo, I just cut off the small pegs/legs and the covers still got locked into place at the outer edge of the wheels - and these wheel covers stayed on okay for the next 7 winters - until we sold that car.

Thanks for the replies.

Well, I have had the car since new, and I have two sets of the same type/size of steel rims for summer and winter tyres resp. Hence I use the same original plastic cover summer/winter that came with the car when I bought it. I actually think they look nice on my Superb.

Until recently, I left the wheel change to my Skoda workshop, but this year I tryed myself. Just like I did on my previous Mondeo’s where I never had such trouble with rim covers.

Anyways, may have to return to the shop..

I had similar problems with my wife's Peugeot - it was returned from a garage with poorly fitted wheel trims. There's a stiff wire hoop clipped to the back of the plastic trim and they'd managed to get one or two of the clips outside  the hoop instead of inside.
