Start stop error

Featured Replies

Hi, my 1.4TSI,DSG, 2014 octavia has got "start stop system error". Car was recently serviced (routine service at independent garage, spark plugs not changed). Start stop worked for couple of weeks after the service. No other warning lights or errors shown on dash.

1. I know it could be any number of things but any key ones to look for

2. With absence of any other warning light or alarms, is it OK for me to ignore this for a while? Other than car not starting /stopping automatically is there anything else I am missing or risking?

Edit: Battery is relatively new (abt 6 months old). Battery is suitable for start/stop.

Thanks for reading..

Although you say your battery was replaced about 6 months ago, check battery SOC as a first move - preferably get battery tested.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the very same fault come up on my Octavia and my friend on his Ford Kuga. He needed a new battery for other reasons, but once fitted his start stop worked again. I might try a new battery and see if it fixes my star stop issues as well.

For best performance and battery longlivety, battery changes should be "coded" to the car with a diagnostic tool. Do you know if this was done? 6 months is quite short time to get new battery roasted due to not coding, but possible.

Also as mentioned above, better to check the battery. With modern **** 6 month old batteries failing is not that rare. Shud get new with warranty tho. U shud be able to roughly check battery condition with 20 €/£/$ multimeter.

Otherwise u shud be good to just drive the car and enjoy the car without start-stop :D

Besides battery problems, fault codes via diagnostic tool shud point towards the reason..
