Autohold, barke pedal smashing noise?

Featured Replies

Hey, I have a weird observation that irritates me all the time. I'm wondering if this is normal or something is not right.

I'm driving Superb III, 4x4 272, and I use auto hold functionality. Sometimes, when I stop fully and release the brake pedal - it springs back quickly and hits something, producing pop noise.
It's not always happening, sometimes it springs back softly without the pop. My guess is that when I'm on a slight elevation, auto hold takes over the pedal pressure, and just releases it without tension. That makes the pedal spring back more rapidly and "hit" something producing noise.

My question is - do you hear any noticeable noise when releasing brake pedal while using auto hold? I tried to describe this problem to dealer when they did oil change, but apparently "they didn't notice anything".

If it's normal, I'll have to live with this. If not, I still have a year of warranty to try get it solved.

that is not normal.

with Auto Hold active or not, the brake pedal should release the same way each time, with no pops bangs or noises.

ha ha, tell that to the dealer, it's common in FL 😞

this were one of reason i turned Off Auto-Hold,

second reason is loud bong when move DSG selector to N

is there a fix for this? Mine does it and it makes the car feel cheap af.

Are dealers interested in fixing under warranty?

Also - is it just my car or are the brakes just not that great. I've come from an octavia which is lighter overall, but it seems the brakes have a different set up, almost progressive rather than 'on / off' brake fluid changed 6k ago in jan 2023.

thanks

Had the same thing on my previous car - Kia Sportage. It feels like a sticking spring or something under tension when the pedal is pressed/held, then releases after the pedal has come back up; almost as if a few well-aimed sprays of WD40 could do it.

Re the brakes, I've always had to modulate my braking distances from car to car. I had a Fabia Mk1 vRS with Octavia Mk1 front brakes which felt like a lot of stopping power for the car. Moved from that to a C6 Audi S6 Avant and that was very different when shrugging off speed. The Skoda feels much like the Audi in that respect. There may be differences in the brake servo etc. or the relative brake size compared to the weight of the car. And 6k miles in 22 months? Wow you don't do many miles....

i find the brakes in the Superb 220 to b good - good feel and good bite.

i recently changed the factory brakes on mine to DBA discs and pads.

I've just bought the car, it's only done 11k on a 69 plate - I do 11k+ each year.

Hey did you get this sorted in the end? I'm trying to book in to my local skoda garage but they are hopeless and don't email back

I haven't yet.

What is interesting, I had my first Technical Inspection (the one required by law), and one of the steps was a hard break done by a technician.
After that, this issue didn't happen for few days. The pedal behaved like it has been replaced. Unfortunately it's back.

I don't know, maybe some rust buildup because I don't break hard on regular basis?

Hi there anyone got this sorter? Got same issue and went to Skoda and they said it’s normal 🤷‍♂️ obviously it’s not as I’ve had before 2 Skodas and never had this problem

Nope. Just kind of dialled it out of my mind. Nothing seems to be wrong with the brakes.

Think the dealer meant to say ‘prevalent’ rather than ‘normal’…

If it’s a similar setup to the Passat when you press the pedal down it’ll push on the brake pedal switch.

Have a look for that and push the switch down and see if it’s that making the noise, if it is then some silicone spray and applying some grease on top of the switch should sort it

Ah different layout completely so most likely not that

From your video I believe that sound is normal, just about to go in mine so I’ll see if it does the same, never noticed it though

I've had multiple ASO visits, still no solution found. The worst part is that during a visit this didn't happen.. I've been showing the clips, but they have no idea.

Sharing video in case someone has similar problem.

That is def not normal ... but more than the return spring sticking, sounds like a valve or switch as mentioned above....

Try to do the same test but this time using your hand instead of the foot?

This way, first you are closer to the source of the noise, and second with the hand is usually easier to "modulate" the effort and try different levels of said effort.

For this is necessary to - here I get to my favorite part 😄- make sure the footwell and area is clean - pedal as well - you can remove the floor mat and use it for your knees, and then assume the ritualistic posiiton of kneeling down in position to Mladá Boleslav and enter part of the body in the driver's hole.

Based on your experience and interest, and also physical size and atheltic shape, you can enter in the basic kneel/prone position, or you can employ the side-snake approach, or in extreme cases - say when you have to deal with a brake switch, ask me how I know - you get to the highest level of contorsionism, the break-your-back over the door sill, standing on your back and propping your butt up. Besides releasing a flush of swear energy and thoughts about yourself and your place in the order of things in the universe, making a mental note to call immediately your chiropractor to sort your back, better still, some nice and gentle masseuse, it makes also a good leg workout!

Making this in your driveway with neighbours passing or popping by makes it for an interesting scene, and will cement your status among them as a weird individual, a person with too much of a problematic car, or in any case someone perhaps to avoid - which is not necessarily a bad thing!

Sorry the tone is just to remove drama ...🙂

That sounds like part of the brake pedal mechanism is not quite correct, like a bush or something clicking in/out of position as the pedal is moved.
