Dsg dmf and clutch kit, replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all , sadly I have a feeling I may soon need the dmf and maybe clutches done on my 15 plate dsg 6 speed Octavia , getting a lot of vibration while stationary and through lower gears especially when cold but generally all times . Can feel it through seat and steering at idle unless you very slightly pick the revs up

Anyway been trying to find rough cost or part , put my reg in and part  and they keep showing me clutches and dmf for manual six speed and not the dsg which I believe has two clutches

Guessing I’m looking at a grand if I can find a competent local garage that can do it and a lot more vw/skoda???
Any advice gratefully recieved , of course I could be completely wrong and the vibration normal for these dsg cars?? It’s my first one

I would be getting a definite diagnosis of the problem before shopping around for a new DMF and clutch pack for your DSG.

I'd say it would be nearer £2k with the labour.

Yes I reckon be close to that even at at an independent. I doubt you'd even get a manual clutch and dmf fitted now for 1k... dsg clutch kit is pricier and a bit more setting up.  Maybe 1,500 would do it, you'd need to call around...

In hindsight i'd say that is closer to the mark.

Don't DSG's have multi plate clutches?

Depending on the DSG version some have dry clutches and some wet clutches.

The 6sp is only wet clutch plate pack design. . A generally reliable unit but that is not to say they never have a problem and clutch packs are consumable. Normally 140k miles maybe more if motorway driving orientated.

But if paying for that work definitely get a garage who knows what they're doing to diagnose and quote. Otherwise if it doesn't fix it it will be on the ops head.

Also should check other items that could show similar symptoms, engine mounts for one.

Yes I’m def getting mounts checked , it’s weird as it’s worse when cold and car been standing for 3 or 4 days , when up to temperature it’s a lovely drive

Chatting with my local vw garage who serviced the dsg two months ago , he said it’s rare much goes wrong with a dsg but if it does , they use a firm in Bristol who recondition the dsg plus clutches and dmf for £2800

I don’t know the name , they just said it’s easier and cheaper for the customers , and this is a main vw garage that’s been in business for 30 years +

Some of the biggest dealership groupx in the UK have all the gear / tools and Technicians without the skills and farm the work out.  Thank goodness.  More should admit they can not do the work. Even with new parts coming in from the factory.
