Heated Seats Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ā

My partner recently bought a mk3 Fabia estate. She's often out early for work, and with winter hitting us fast, it can get pretty cold at that time!

I thought it'd be nice to surprise her with an upgrade to heated seats.

Ā

I was under the impression that this was an option on the mk3, but I'm failing to find much information at all with regard to retrofitting them.

Ā

Can anyone recommend a guide, or at least a list of parts required?

I've had a good look around the forum and failed to find much, but nevertheless, apologies if I've failed to use the search function adequately šŸ˜„

Ā

Thanks!

I often find using Google to do the searching works better.

Ā

Maybe check to see if Kufatec supplies cabling or a kit.

Ā

My wife seems to have forgotten her 2015 VW Polo has them, she used them when she had her previous car which was a 2002 VW Polo.

Kufatec do supply a cable set, if you buy that you will be able to download their instructions which should help with getting the other parts needed.

Ā

Retro fitting to the standard/level of factory fit options does cause a lot of damage to your wallet, but if you’ve set your mind on doing this - why not! I’ve done a bit of proper retro fitting to my old 2011 Audi S4 and it all worked out well - apart from cost, I sourced the cables from Kufatec and most other parts were found used online.

Thanks rum, much appreciated. I've done a fair bit of retrofitting on Audi's and VW's in the past, so I'm confident with getting my hands dirty and wallet emptied 🄲

Ā

Unfortunately I failed to find much info via Google either. Lots of people swapping them into 5J/mk2's, but couldn't really find anything beyond people mentioning they'd done it on NJ/mk3's, with little more information included. Good to know about the loom, tbh I forgot Kufatec include instructions!

Ā

Perhaps I'll have a look for some Monte Carlo seats, it seems those are much more commonly heated. Should be a nice comfort upgrade for her as well, hers is an SE with, afaik, the most basic seats available on the model.

Ā

As well as the loom and heated seats, Kufatec suggests I'll need "Original seat heating controller" and "Original control unit for seat heating".

Ā

I suppose one of these is the replacement buttons unit, including the two additional buttons to control the heating function for each seat. Struggling to find much info on this, or even a P/N. Might be time to fire up my ETKA VM and do some digging.

Update: Checked ETKA. Seems this is P/N 6V0927132B or 6V0927132C. B supports PRs 4UC and 4UE, "driver airbag" and "airbag for driver and front passenger" respectively. C supports PR 4UF, "driver and front passenger airbag with front passenger airbag deactivation". I'll have to check which one she currently has.

Ā

I'm then assuming that the other is the relay, which seems to carry P/N 6R0959772E.

Ā

If I go ahead with the project, I'll be sure to write up a guide for anyone else!

Check breakers for seats and switches for central console. We have a 2015 Mk 3 Fabia SE without heated seats, sister in law has 2017 Mk3 Fabia SE with heated seats. Interiors are otherwise identical so could be a straight swap with some VCDS coding.

Heated seats were never standard, they were an optional extra.

When I ordered my Fabia S EL in 2018 they were part of the 'Winter pack' which included heated washer nozzles.

I would have had a heated windscreen if they had been available,

@RickW, yes, I have a drinking friend who has had heated screens on his Fords for maybe 15 years or more, and feels very smug in winter time!Ā

Ā

Mind you, we always have our cars in a garage so only an issue "after work" etc.

I had Sierra Ghia back in the early 90s and it had a heated windscreen, boy do I miss it!

Good information!
