Nissan 200sx

Featured Replies

Does anyone know anything about them

Very quick RWD turbo bit of Jap crap. :)

Ok, they're not crap, but with some work, they're immensely tuneable. :)

Mechanically sound, rear wheel drive and turbo-charged. After my Nissan Silvia finally passed away at 190,000 miles (dodgy ecu, not worth replacing) I was all set to get one, then SWMBO dropped the bombshell :( hence the move to the sensible 4 door Primera.

I've never forgiven her :D

Yes S13 was a 1.8 Turbo screamer. But I'm more interested in the S14, which is a 2L Turbo, 200bhp. The one to have is a manual S14A (revised lights etc) Touring model which adds leather seats/door cards!

Great value for money, I was considering one before I got my Fabia, and I'd still consider one in the future... Nice cars!

Whats a S15 then

If you fancy drifting the S13 is better with the limited slip differential, also alot lighter and easier to drift apparently.

The best one is the 180SX which is import only, S13 with an SR20 engine rather than the C18 which can be a little weak.

Ali's one is now over 300bhp and does the 1/4 in just over 13 seconds.

Whats a S15 then

The latest shape, import only.

Apparently the UK s14 had the LSD too :)

The S14 is a pretty awesome bit of kit. A mate had one as his Nissan company car. We did 65,000 miles in 2.5 years with most acceleration done at full throttle and plenty of red-lining. It cruised in 3 figures most of the time and generally got driven very hard most of it's life, but I wouldn't say we abused it, just spirited use :D .

In the time he owned it the only problem encountered was a fuel filler cap that jammed shut, easily fixed by removing the rear trim and bending the catch.

The handling was superb in the dry with a good ride quality at the same time, non of the crash bang stuff you can get with some coupes. However in the wet, even with the LSD, snap oversteer with very little warning or much chance of recovery was common. These cars need carefull handling and a lot of respect in the wet.

Maintenance costs were reasonable for a 200 bhp turboed car, but tyre life, both front and rear can be fairly short (around 5000 miles  ) if driven hard like this one was.

Fuel economy ranged from mid thirties to low twenties, depending on what you were doing and they should really be run on the high octane stuff.

I personally like the exterior styling, but the interior, despite being very comfortable, was a little too "jap" for me with that shiny hard vinyl covered dash material and lots of other hard shiny plastics elsewhere. Non of the Germanic VW dash look in these things, but it's a small price to pay when the rest of the package is so good.

Overall it was a great car with reasonable running costs, bomb proof mechanicals, great performance and fairly exclusive. I certainely wouldn't hesitate to get one if I'd got somewhere to keep it, just be extremely carefull in the wet.

www.sxoc.com

they are pretty much bomb proof and run forever. was going to get one before i got the vrs but saw how much the vrs' were going for and changed me mind :D

My son owned an S13 and now owns a 1999 S14a. It has a very strong engine, is very tuneable at a reasonable cost, and spares are relatively cheap and easily obtainable. It has a strong following on the SXOC mentioned above.

Probably the best value coupe money can buy. Cheap and easy to tune too, and the rear wheel drive means it can handle the power too. Has to be the S14A Touring, as SkodaLover says.

I saw one at the Ace Cafe a few weeks back... Bloody fast the way it moved. Spoke to the guy who owned it. And it had 160 hp. And.. less torque. I still presume it would take a remapped furby, but then i've never seen from the outside the way the fabia moves.

I used to have a S14 manual with the touring pack. It was a brilliant car, one of my favourites over the years. I can't fault the build quality, reliability or performance. You had to be driving like an idiot to lose the rear end, even in the wet. The 197bhp was delivered very smoothly and it would touch triple figures without even trying. I drove all over the UK in it, both me and the wife loved it and were very sad to see it go. Also, the standard stereo was of a good quality, so much better than my Octavia vRS, but the original price was about

Polesworth Nissan near Tamworth (Staffs) have had one on their forecourt for a year. Its up for £5k ish but I'm sure thye'd do a good dela on it to get rid of the thing. It is a very tidy example and I dont see why its still there TBH.

Perhaps it's an auto, or doesn't have the leather interior. Or, even worse, both.

My mates have S13 & S14. The S14 is very impressive, its stage 1 tuned and pushing 265bhp. He bought his for under 4 grand with well over 100k but still pulls very strong. Im tempted to get 1.

I dream of having my old s13 back 300+ BHP so much fun

you csn steer them with the right foot sideway fun for all.

but I now have littel ones so no more SX :( :( :(

But topends can be week cam follower and valve seates problems

standerd turbo's had oil feed problems solved with revised oil feed pipes

but i still forgive them these faults

Big turbo lag = big fun

the s14 has more torque not quite as brutal

s13 & s14 both top motors

How would a remapped 2.0T Octy VRS do against a stage 1 200SX with sorted suspension?

Ideas for a new car Col?

Do like the old SX's but more and more seem to be getting turned into **** cars. Just like the fabia

Ideas for a new car Col?

If it is, he's taken a bloomin long time deciding - look at the date of the original post :P

:o

Which muppet posted last.

i was looking at 200sx's before i bought the octavia.. i just couldn't find one i wanted!!

So where would a remapped Octavia be on the track against a 250bhp 200SX?

Behind or in front you think?

Depends on how good the 200 sx driver is at going sideway. I d put money on it winning away from the lights, then once you get to a bend its very difficult to pass a car that is broadside across the track.
