End of Skoda Connect and the app?

Featured Replies

Apparently, the Škoda Connect app will stop working at the end of 2025 when G3 disappears in Europe.
As this has been known about for a very long time, surely there must be a G4 upgrade for the cars?

Škoda can't be the only people using G3 for long term comms? I am sure not just many other carmakers but a lot of other equipment will use G3?

Does this also mean the SOS button will stop working as well?

I think you mean 3G Networks - this is already happening across UK and Europe. I think that you will find that the Cellular Comms module is 4G/LTE, so not an issue 😀

I hope so.  It is just when I renewed the App it said about the G3 shut down and loss of services.   However, as my car was made late 2022-2023  (registered April 2024)  I assume that as the date for the G3 shut down was well known some time (years?) before 2022 the cars would have a G4/LTE comms module.

Any idea how I would find out specifically what is fitted to my car?

This page, dating from the Karoq's introduction in 2017, refers to its LTE module:

Thanks for that.

I would assume (silly I know) for a car introduced in 2018 with a known end date of G3 only 5 or 6 years later they would have put in a G4/LTE module, and certainly done so by the 2022 facelift.   Having had a look at the wiring and comms manual, the comms unit is an easily replaceable module, so no reason not to update it if it was G3 only. .    My 5-year-old iPhone is G3 and G4.

Hopefully the G3 warnings are for the older Škoda models that only had G3 fitted, not the Karoq

The Skoda Connect app IS gone, replaced by the MySkoda app (which, imho, doesn't work as well). I'm intrigued by the steady climb in ratings on the Apple and GoogleApp Stores, though. with Apple it started at a (justified) 2.8/5, but has been rising since then  (at the moment an unbelievable 4.6), BUT the words in the customer reviews seem to show that nothing has really changed. It's slow, often inaccurate and sometimes completely useless. The disturbing thing is that Skoda almost always reply with the "cut 'n paste", "Dear user, sorry to hear that you're having issues with our app. Please contact our local support team at [email protected] to get personalized assistance in resolving this problem. Your MyŠKODA app team."

If you DO contact the Support Team, the response is pretty useless.

The VW group do have  a better app but you have to buy a Bentley to use it.... 🙂
