Second fog and reversing lights

Featured Replies

My apologies if this topic has ben done to deeath already - I have found items using google, but not when searching here.

I have just bought a 2020 MK4 Octavia, drives nicely, but I now hate the 'info' side of the infotainment , wish I had bought an earlier car.

I find the single reversing light abysmal and would like to add the second light as wel as the fog light).

Question is, can this be done simply by cross wiring one side to the other or will this upset the canbus, or can this be done using OBD2.

I assume that the light cluster removal is similar to the main real lights???

Thanks.

Welcome.

The reversing light is only to let people know you are reversing is it not, not to light up your way?

Of course it's to light up your way.  When I was a nipper and cars didn't come with reversing lights (or hazard flashers) my father would use the indicators to try and get some light behind him when reversing in the dark.

It is a cost cutting measure, see if the top spec Octavia has 2 reversing lights and get a cluster from one of those. Failing that, buy a VW 😁

When i was a nipper and a teenager we had rear Spot Lights on our cars to look like we were rally drivers and to try and blind those up our arse.

Some put on the rear fog light at the same time as the reversing light to be able to see better behind. But then the OP has only 1 rear fog light like millions of others cars.

Good idea, must remember to turn headlight off when going forward :)

Actually remember if the car has 'Auto Front Fog lights' that come on  when Reverse is Selected if selecting reverse and vehicles / cycles coming towards you.

Some drivers seem to not even know they have these.  Some enable them like Yeti Drivers.  Odd really because if you need to light in front while reversing you can just put on Full Beam if nobody to annoy.

Then there are those that do not know if their car has the rear brake lights on when Autohold functioning or not.

Nobody would be bothered either way, it's just the norm now to be dazzled by the car in front while making myself feel better by dazzling the car behind 😁

.  . . and the clowns in the Road Traffic Research Labs will make all cars have auto-dipping brake lights to compensate.
