Cold running issues.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, hopefully someone can help me with this issue.

Starting from cold is difficult, rough running and random fault codes with both emc and engine management lights on, usually either crankshaft sensor fault or cylinder misfire fault codes.

However once the engine is up to temperature it starts easily and runs well, if fault codes are cleaned with the engine warm and a rescan done no codes are found.

My hunch is the water temperature sensor, could this be what's causing this.

The blue temperature light seems to function correctly and the aftermarket water temp gauge shows normal operating temperature.

Might be nice to actually know which engine this is.

The engine is the 12 valve 3 cylinder 1.2. 2013 registration.

My bad forgot to say that 😁

Lack of fault codes doesn't help, but I'd normally suspect spark plug(s) and/or coil pack(s) on a petrol, and with this engine maybe burnt exhaust valves, so a compression test...

Thank you for getting back to me, I had major engine work done not long ago due to a stretched timing chain which involved having the top end inspected so I will assume that the garage would have spotted any valve issues,

I will get new plugs and give it a major service and see if it improves things.
