Change of tyre size for more comfort 19ich Skoda superb Sportline Hatch

Featured Replies

I've changed my tyres from 235/40/19 to 225/45/19

But I still feel it's still not comfortable enough. Can I put 245/45/19 or 245/40/19 I'm so confused any help anyone??

Frankly. if you're chasing more comfort, I'd say swap to 17" wheels.

I'll happily swap 18's with your 19's if they're an interesting design. With cash contribution of course

Here are some 17" alloy rims shown in the Skoda accessory catalogue. It's a Czech website, but you can order any of the alloy rims shown in the Skoda accessory catalogue from any VAG parts department...by quoting the relevant OEM part number. The slightly narrower 6.5J rims would give slightly more comfort than the slightly wider 7J rims, when fitted with the standard 215/55R17 tyre size.

Other options for comfort include 16" rims and suitable tyres...but I suspect most Superb MK3 owners would find the comfort from a 17" tyre and rim combination good enough.

Alloy rims 6.5Jx17 ET41 and 7Jx17 ET40 (for Superb MK3) (215/55R17 tyre size) (the four photos below show the slightly narrower 6.5J rims)

Increasing width and height to a degree will give more comfort, height more so than width. 235 vs 225 means you have less surface area on the road as the width has decreased. 240 vs 245 is not likely to see much of a comfort increase. 235/45/19 would be an option, going to a 50 profile is likely to look odd but none will be as comfortable as dropping sizes of alloys.

255/45/19???? Don't you think it'll touch the shock absorbers every time I go on a hump?

There is most certainly a definite comfort increase.

Many many mk3 Superb owners have switched from the the factory 235/40/19 tire to 245/40/19 tire, and have found it more comfortable.

The sidewall height increases by 5 mm.

True, but increasing profile would have more of an effect surely?

I didnt say 255, I was referring to a 50 profile tyre, but might make it also feel a bit wallowy.

40/10=4, not 5.

I bought my used superb last September and the guy had 19" inch wheels (235/45) - found the car super harsh. I was seriously stunned by such low comfort for a superb.

1 month after, I swapped the wheels for 17" inch ones and bingo, super comfortable :).

Which is wrong:-

235*0.4=94

245*0.4=98

Do the sums yourself instead of just quoting "some page on the interwebnet".

Thanks Boss.

I would downsize to 18s or 17s, actually I am on winter 17s now and while much more comfortable, there is a more "boaty" feel compared with the 19s.

I will settle on 18s for next season summer ones.

I use 19's for summer, 245/40/19.  Comfort is acceptable however im on coilovers so ride quality is firm.  For winter i use 18", 235/45/18  and they are definitely more comfortable.  Im now considering of selling the 19's and getting some lightweight 18's for summer.
