Next base dash cams

Featured Replies

Thinking of fitting the 422 version front & rear any good or what have you fitted ?

Ive had a nextbase Dash cam for about 5/6 years, can't remember what model but it is a 4K one, I found the quality of the normal HD one a bit poor and when you might want to capture a passing reg plate you need all the clarity you can get.

I think it is alright for its age, I suspect the interfaces and the app is a lot better now

They do get very hot when recording, especially when your car is already 45 degrees inside in the middle of summer and I think this contributes towards battery failure. I have replaced mine once which requires dissassembley and some soldering maybe but you can get them and they are cheap enough. I think this probably goes for every dash cam though, I think of lot of them are the same components inside

I have had a Next base for many years (322 i think) but as it did not have a rear view camera I got a 622 as this has one I

went for this and have been happy with the unit, the only thing I would say is have it hard wired as apposed to using the

Mirror connection

Is that because you want monitoring when parked (ignition off), or for another reason?

Mainly that there is not as much power for both Cams

Main reason being monitoring when parked , dealer seems to favour using a socket near the mirror , did not know the power could drain the battery the previous mk3 Octavia had a 622 dash cam front & rear & never issues  & still had the original battery after almost 7 years ownership by me from new .

Got a GW622, the picture quality is top notch, but do use an card that's designed for use with GoPro action cam or such like SanDisk Max Endurance which at the time of posting was £12 for a 64Gb, £30 for 128Gb or £55 for 256Gb card which are V30, Class 10 & U3 so ideal for the GW622 dashcams fast writing speed & large 4k files.

The only let down is the naff viewing software the Nextbase Connect & Nextbase Player.

Nextbase Connect takes ages to create a linkage between your phone & camera, camera output can only be read by Nextbase Player or VLC

I have the rear camera as well but I can't find anyone to install it for me as I don't have the knowhow to do it and I'm not mucking the car's interior up to do it.

Will it save you in a crash or incident? Mixed results for me, Privilege are arguing with me & I'm threatening to go to the insurance ombudsman over one incident back in 2023, I have used it to file a couple of dangerous driving incidents to the police (driving the wrong way through a one way street and another with a pensioner going through a No Entry sign, ignoring the Keep Left sign & the wrong way around a traffic island and nearly having a head on with another car which resulted in the OAP losing his licence) & no I don't regret it!

This comes from a retired train driver who was cautioned by the signaller & found an OAP with his car on the platform at Esher.

I have a 42GW with rear camera hard wired in (power consumption & clean look). To echo what has been said, the cameras are extremely fussy about what MicroSD card you use - I have a Samsung EVO Plus (Grade 3, class 10) which is more than fast enough on paper. However, in real life I get read errors every so often and have to re-format. I would go with the NextBase branded cards as they should have no issues whatsoever. I had it fitted in Glasgow when I was getting rear parking camera fitted - used the same cable routing so was no additional effort for installer.

Quality wise, pretty good and like others, have submitted several clips of bad driving but (fortunately) haven't had to rely on it for my own benefit.

I fit the 422 front and rear on my octavia using the USB-C port on the rear view mirror, works fine.

Only gripe is its hard to hide the rear camera cable as its so bloody long, got it routed in the roof liner and i still have about 6ft of cable hanging in my boot spare
