A few questions before purchasing

Featured Replies

I'm about to close the deal on a SEL Exec 1.5 tsi 2023 model and it has done 18k mil. but before I do that I hope you could help me with some questions

1. The car is coming fitted with sunroof. Looking around here I found loads of reports about water leak. Is this also the case for the 23 models? Should I avoid it?

2. The car is from a Skoda dealership which is about 3hrs away from me so the car will have to be delivered. They sent me a video and all look good but I didn't set or test driven this one. There is a 14 days no questions ask return but I'll have to pay for the delivery back.

Anything I should be particularly worried about?

FYI, we already test drive a another car of same model.

3. Any non obvious thing specific to the Kodiaq I should consider/ask the dealership about?

Thanks

I don’t believe you should. Most leaks were down to drainage channels being blocked, rather than anything more nefarious. No problems whatsoever with my 2021 Kodiaq and the sunroof.

Personally, if you can afford the time, I’d go collect it. That gives you the chance to take it for a quick test drive, inspect it, and - more importantly - get to know it on the nice long drive home! I drove all the way up to Newcastle (from Gloucester, in the snow!) to get my first Kodiaq. But if you can’t, then I think it is worth clarifying that (thanks to distance selling regs) you won’t have to pay for the delivery back to them if you reject the car due to any issues, or it not being as described (i.e. anything other than you changing your mind).

Given the age and mileage, I’m going to assume that it has had the first (if not the second as well) service done. DSG and Haldex (4x4) (if applicable) oil changes won’t be anywhere near due yet. Can’t think of anything else that is specific to the Kodiaq that you should be worried about.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it and it provides many miles / years of happy motoring!

I had mine for 4 1/2 years, a 1.5 TSI, and had no issues what so ever.  Reliable, comfortable and a nice place to be.

As Yogi said, I would collect it it possible. That way you can have a old look round the paint for scratches and supermarket dents. They won’t show on a video. Nothing more annoying in my book.

Yogi-Bear thanks (again) for the detailed comment 👌

I'm not doing part exchange so collecting the car means I'll have to take the train and bus.

The dealership just emailed us to say that the car has sold to someone else even though I reserved it on the official Skoda website!

They said it didn't show on their system and they will have to look into it! (then explain this). 😤

Maybe its for the best since I don't like the idea of buying a car blind but I if I want a sunroof then this is pretty much the only option 😕

That’s a bummer, happy hunting though

All good. The one on their website isn't ours but the one on the official Skoda website is. I sent them the reservation confirmation email to proff I reserved it first and the manager agreed its fair so the car is ours 🎉
