Featured Replies

Been to 3 mechanics know the first broke the car even though I just went in for a service know all this is happening he caused my cruise/brake switch light to stay on also my tpms light to stay on aswell also a EPC light  and my break lights to stay on went to 2 others to get my break light switch changed and they wouldn’t saying it’s all electrical issues but I’ve look at all the wires in the car and they all seem fine if anyone could be of help would be great thanks  I will add the codes that are coming on for diagnostic also

I believe your car has the hall-effect type of brake light switch, mounted on the brake master cylinder, rather than the pedal.  The garage(s) are possibly unaware of this, so looking in the wrong place.  See if there's any sign of wiring damage near to it (access is horrible on RHD cars though, I expect).

Check fuse 8 before you worry about anything else. It appears to supply the brake light switch and the clutch switch and the fan control module, so would be consistent with most of the fault indications if blown.

Yeah he did say it was in the master cylinder yesterday but I will check the fuse I took it to the garage for a service it was fine it’s come out know with all these issues do you think that could still be the fuse though ?

thanks for the reply

Also The break lights stay on while the car is on but then turn off when the engine is off

Easy enough to check and replace the fuse, rather than speculate on why/how.

5 Amp miniblade, I think.

I found this wire but not sure what’s it’s for it’s in between the headlights this is maybe for my sidelights that’s why they won’t work but thinking would that effect the break lights ?
Im new to this car so just want to be sure im doing the right thing it’s right behind the area I have circled

Does sound like the fuse issue as mentioned  you could also check the brake light switch by disconnecting the wires/plug and see if the lights go out that's how we always tested these type of switches before they moved to the brake pedal type

No idea what the busted wire or the device it used to connect to is. Bonnet open/closed switch, maybe? Won't be related to brake light issues, I'm almost certain.

Yeah I don’t think there will be a way for me to get to the switch as the car would have to be lifted up for me to do that because it is in the master cylinder but will be checking the fuse thanks for the reply

And??? I mean I had a 1982 Ford Cortina where the brake lights only operated when the ignition was live.

No one can see if I’m breaking or not because the break lights are completely on permanently when the car is turned on

I read your previous as "The brake lights only work when the ignition is on".

Yes that’s right but stay on they shouldn’t stay on only sidelights stay on not the break lights only when the break pedal is pressed

You need to see whether it has blown or not.

I'd replace any fuzes the blades of which are that corroded.

Yeah will do that

Bad contact. Put a new one in, and maybe even try to clean the receptacles in the fusebox, somehow.
