Hi all .

Just purchased a skoda superb 1.5tsi and I absolutely love it .

When the tyres are due to be replaced I'm potentially looking to go from the 18in rims to the 16s with a full set of michelin crossclimate 2s .

I'm very new to all this so are there places that will buy your rims and order your new ones in and swap them out for you if so does anyone recommend anywhere around Manchester?

I'm happy with skoda 16s as I'm not looking to be fancy just a little extra comfort and slightly better fuel economy too . Thanks for any help , much appreciated 👍

Will 16" wheels go over your brakes?

I have no idea that's why I was asking really . I was hopefully going to find someone who has done the swap or knows of someone to see if it's a possibility 🤔

Welcome to the forum.

Worth having a look around, and maybe do a search, same with 'The spare wheel' if you need one.

Below shows a standard 16" steel rim option for the Superb MK3 and a non-standard 17" steel rim option from the Kodiaq MK1. The 17" option works out quite a bit cheaper than the 16" option...at least going by the links below.

The Kodiaq MK1 normally uses a 215/65R17 tyre size for its 17" rims, but the Superb MK3 uses a much smaller outside diameter 215/55R17 tyre size...so that would be the tyre size to use if considering 17" Kodiaq MK1 rims.

The 17" Kodiaq MK1 rims use an ET38 offset, whereas the 16" and 17" Superb MK3 rims use either ET40 or ET41 offsets. However, having 2mm to 3mm less offset than standard isn't much and would move the centre of each tyre 2mm to 3mm further out in each wheelarch.

The below wheel trims can be ordered from any VAG parts department by quoting the relevant OEM part number. The Czech price is about £69 to £72 for a set of four wheel trims.

The big difference in ride quality will come from changing down from 235/45R18 to 215/55R17. Changing down further to 215/60R16 is a relatively small improvement over the 215/55R17. By changing from 235/45R18 to 215/55R17 I would estimate that you would get about three-quarters (75%) of the ride improvement compared to going from 235/45R18 to 215/60R16.

Oh wow Carleton thank you very much this is exactly what I needed 👍

I guess I'll just need to decide if the 16s are worth it over the 17s and also if the 16s will definitely fit on my car but I can ask a local garage to confirm before I buy .

Also I will get something back from selling my 18in alloys as they're in great condition too so that would offset some cost too .

Thanks again , hugely appreciated 👌👍

16" wheels fit all Superb MK3 models, except the very powerful 2.0TSI 272HP/280HP 4x4 models...which need a minimum of 17" wheels due to their bigger brakes.

The below link shows both 6.5Jx17 ET41 and 7Jx17 ET40 rims. For better comfort and better protection from kerbing damage it's best to go for the narrower 6.5J rims. My preference would be the Triton alloy rims, although the Markab alloy rims are also 6.5J.

If the internet info I got is correct - always check, double-check and cross reference any information you get from any source internet / sellers / manufactures even, note I haven't check this - here are some pictorials to give you some idea.

The list I looked at show two different size wheels in 18" - 8.5" wide ET 41 and 8" wide ET 41 I've gone with 8" as just an uneducated guess, your wheels will have the size on them, probably on the inside face where you can't see them unless you take the wheel off the car.

So 8"wide 18" (ET 44) wheel with bloody silly 235/45ZR18 94W tyres (could be worse could be 19" wheels) against 16" 6.5" (ET 41) wide wheels with say 215/60R16 tyres.

ETA: 16" tyres give over 20% more sidewall than those bloody silly 18" if all the info is correct.
